Thread about it on casforum too, surely it's a no brainer for the club to take a stand like Fev did for WR?

There's numerous ways to pay for it highlighted on there including fan donations, the buy a brick money if buyers give permission and council funding which they have a commitment to give for facilities to aid the local community.

Try and keep this thread for further ideas on how this scheme could work and Wakey trolls try and stay out of this one, please.

"Castleford's biggest home crowd of the 1991-1992 season wasn't quite 12,000 while on average they'd sit around 6000 but the noise, the chanting and the singing just blows you away" - Tawera Nikau "Standing Tall" "I can tell you the atmosphere was extraordinary at Wheldon Road on big days. The ground held around 15,000 people, every one of them close to the action on the field and the noise would be enough to send a rumble through the town" - Malcolm Reilly "Reilly - A Life in Rugby League":d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_39793.jpg

You see, what we need is a dynamic BOD led by a dynamic CEO who would jump on this idea and move things forward even if it turned out to be a non starter.

Luckily Ben Parker is already on the case but it probably isn't going to get any further, hopefully they realise it will bring money to the club in the long run.

First off I have to say its a damn shame and a disgerace that a recognised National stadium in Yorkshire is facing the Bulldozers. However its a dog eat dog world and Sheffields loss could be our gain

I agree 100% Gronk! there must be someway we can look at getting the Stand (or part of it) on the cheap , I would gladly give my BUY a Brick money to the project as the club could still have a wall inside the stand with the dedications etc on as Sunderland AFC did when the stadium of light was built.

somebody wants to be getting in touch with people at william hills and corals, they take plenty off the good castleford folk, so lets have something back from em, ideally from don valley and then it could be a william hill stand and a coral stand, job done. onwards and upwards.

Yes the board should look into this, but imagine our board making a mess in pitching for it.

This should be the number one focus of the back team staff... well, the ones we have left. Not only is it a big ole stand, but it loads of space within it too which is currently office space but presumably could be made into a bar, a shop or even some toilets that don't look like they're out the third world. I think it has corporate boxes too.

I did catch a little of a Sheffield radio station today (Hallam)?, and some of the regular listeners are having a moan about Don Valley closing, most of them complaining more about the loss of a large outdoor concert arena than a sports stadium.

I wouldn't be surprised if the locals didn't form some kind of protest group over the closure.

The problem is their protesting about loosing the don Vally but the vast majority will never have set a foot in the place, if they want it to stay they should take over the running cost off keeping a place open what does not see many athletic programs

They can protest all they want, but as far as I can tell it is too late. The decision has been made, which would make sense as budgets are due for councils about now.

I really want to see Cas persue this properly, it would seem a great outcome for the club, in one stroke we get better facilities and hit the SL requirements for ground size. It's cheaper than relocating and the club maintains ownership of the ground. Because of the facilities in the stadium other revenue streams could open up too.

I have noticed a thread on the V.T encouraging fans to sign the petition to save Don Valley.

Oh well Plan C...lets get the old golf stands from New Craven Park and make that the away end icon_wink.gif
