Wasn't too sure whether to post this on the match thread so i made it anew topic. Was wondering what team people would put out against Wakefield.

1. Mathers
2. Dixon
3. Arundel
4. Isa
5. Youngquest
6. Chase
7. Orr
8. Jackson
9. Hudson
10. Fozzard
11. Huby
12. Snitch
13. Ferres

Subs

14. Emmit
15. Walker
16. Widders
17. Milner/McGoldrick

couldnt chose between the last two as to who TM would choose. Can see him putting some size on the bench to replace the likes of Fozzard and Jackson when they go off

That team has enough beef to beat Wakefield up the middle. Fozz and Walker are impact subs. Don't forget the MS pitch is a wide one. If you put too many props in the team and Wakefield start to throw the ball about they might catch us out. I'm not sure about Aspinwalls fitness but he could be a useful sub in this game. If we need an extra prop, Snitch can go there and Aspinwall to 2nd row but he still has enough pace to cover easily in the centres should we need it.

To me, that is harsh on Stuart Jones, he is the incumbant and deserves a shot. Aspinwall would be interesting for utility value on the bench, if after a year off he is better than any of our other options.
Plus, the other kids too, I feel bad dropping them from the 17 for game day an including McGoldrick, who is arguably a risk given he has barely played at centre. But, through loyalty, seniority and what he is capable of, Goldy earns the right to a start at centre, but he has not earned a long average run - if he doesn't produce, he should get a rest to find his form, we have options.

What I hope we dont end up with is faffing about like we used to do to get all the players on the field; come first change when Raz goes off for a rest, we end up like musical chairs - Rangi to 9, Goldy to half, Ferris to centre and another back row on..... what a mess... We have enough good players in specialists positions to not need that with no injuries at the moment.

If Arundel starts on bench to accommodate McGoldrick in the centres then i'll walk out of the ground and just sit and watch Yawnion in the pub.

For me McGoldrick is a back up utility player and probably takes up valuable space in our 17. I think he'll get the nod on the bench ahead of Milner. Although he shouldn't in my opinion.

Aspinwall could do a job in either of the second row/Loose and Winger/Centre so i think (albeit been harsh on jones) his flexibility in positions could be vital

Could not deicde between Jones and Aspinwall so it was just the toss of a coin really. Mcgoldrick over Milner was a touch one but if we are behind going into the last quarter I do feel a fresh Mcgoldrick could make a difference.

McGoldrick should be given a run at centre as that is what he was bought as but has never been given the oppertunity to play there. He has been moved about during matches and in the starting line up without ever complaining so it's only right to reward his loyalty. It will be hard on players such as Holmes, Emmit. Jones, Thompson and others but i am sure they will get chances during the season.

I cant see TM not picking Mcgoldrick, and the only position where he can fit in is at centre, i would be very surprised if TM didnt pick him there.
Im not quite sure whether we will go with an interchange hooker on the bench in Milner or if we will have 4 forwards on the bench, like last season when Hudson was given a breather Chase went in at dummy half, also Orr can do that as well.
I think that TM might go with something like this:-
1. Mathers
2. Dixon
3. Mcgoldrick
4. Isa
5. Youngquest
6. Chase
7. Orr
8. Fozzard
9. Hudson
10. Jackson
11. Jones
12. Snitch
13. Ferres

14. Widders
15. Huby
16. Aspinwall
17. Emmett

Its a shame to leave out Walker, Milner and Arundel but there time will come.
Start with Fozzard and Jackson, hopefully get a good solid opening 20 minutes from them and then bring on the younger pair in Huby and Emmett. Widders and Aspinwall to cover the backrowers and Hudson, like i said before, Chase and Orr can deputise at dummy half.

I think Emmit has been awesome in the friendlies. I don't see how we can leave him out. He also has a bit of big game experience too.

Maybe so but I just don't see where we can fit him in unless it's at the expense of Aspinwall. Some tough decisions for Mr Matterson. Isn't it good we've got some selection headaches for once, rather than having a predictable 17.

I think McG and Isa will work good together. I've gone for a strong pack and bench. Aspinwall is a great defender ad can't afford to be left out.

I'm loving struggling to pick a 17 for a change. Walker, jones, Holmes, Arundel, Dixon, Thomson and Owen when fit have all gotta fight to get in this squad.

No place for McGoldrick because he's not only a liability he now has better players in front of him in every position he TRIES to play in.
