| Hi
I suppose the first question would be how are you getting up here?
If you are coming up by car and in good time then a wonderful pub to eat in is the Three Horse Shoes at Fairburn just outside of castleford, and it would be worth ringing up to book. Good home cooked food at a reasonable price
There are also various eating establishments in xscape, chiquitos, nandos, frankie and bennies etc.
There is also a nice Chinese restaurant the eastern court.
I also hear that the Magnet on pontefract road does good food but as I haven't eaten there I can't give you a100% accurate answer.
Safe journey and enjoy your day (hopefully the result will go our way though )

The Turnpike (just off the A162 which is the old A1) is a Brewsters pub with an OK menu. It also has indoor and outdoor play areas for the little ones.

Fairburn? Back in 1971 I got chased into the toilets at the village hall by a pack of girls at some disco, and not let out until I agreed to go out with one of them. Eeeh, them were the days
For family feeding though: Does The Fox at Brotherton still exist? I recall being sat outside that in the 1960s with a bottle of coke and a bag of crisps, watching the traffic on the A1. (That's how you fed kids then, parked them outside with a coke and crisps …)

Crikey me and my brother used to do the same.
Bag of salted crisps with the little blue bag and a bottle of pop.
We must have crossed paths tb cos it was the 60's when i remember the same event.

| Try the Glassblower (Wetherspoons) pub on Bank Street in the middle of Castleford. It's only a short walk down to the ground.

| Nowadays it is hard to find a pub in Castleford which serves good food.
Back when Lockwood had The Boat in Allerton Bywater, that was the place to be, we used to go every Saturday and you would never be dissatisfied. Not many managed to finish their big mixed grill, that was a treat even for the biggest of appetites. Brian even brewed his own beer in his last year or so of ownership. We went there a couple of times after he left but it wasn't the same. I hear it's reopened fairly recently but I haven't been yet.
Other than that you only really have The Three Horse Shoes, The Old Mill and The Glassblower on a Saturday, unless you want to go to a chain restaurant.
I've only been once to The Three Horse Shoes and I enjoyed it, would go back.
The Old Mill used to do decent meals but it has decreased in quality since last season, which is a shame, been twice this season before Saturday matches and there was hardly anybody else in.
Which leaves The Glassblower, I wouldn't advise a meal in there, expensive and poor quality, only good for Guest beers and cheap sessions.
The Singing Chocker just off the M62 has mixed reviews, some say the whole experience was rubbish, others say it was good, wouldn't take the chance with that or The Brewers Fair type pubs personally.
If you fancy Pizza, Chinese, Mexican or Italian then Xscape is your place, you get what you expect really.
As for The Fox, now an Indian Restaurant, went there a couple of years ago for New Years Eve, it was nice, they serve traditional and non traditional Indian food, not often you get cheese on Indian food but they do a lot of things with it. Do buffets on Sundays too now. Haven't been back since but I definitely would.
Hope this helps.

| Wheatsheaf at Whitwood takes some beating for value, variety and portion size plus there's the buffet/carvery option which means no waiting to be served. Take Normanton exit from M62 following signs for Cas town centre but after a few hundred yards turn left at traffic lights next to Rising Sun pub. Wheatsheaf on your right as road bears sharp left after going under railway bridge.

The Magnet Hotel on Pontefract Road isn't too bad. This is on the way to the ground and is only a about 1.5 miles from the ground, and about the same from Junction 32 of the M62. Follow signs for Castleford (don't follow signs for Xscape), the road goes by the turn off and it's on the left-hand side as you down Pontefract Road which is a long straight road.

I can vouch for the food there too - very nice and really good value for a fiver. I think carvery is 4-8pm on Saturday evenings.

23517.gif George Bush says 'we are losing the war on drugs'. Well you know what that implies? There's a war going on, and people on drugs are winning it! Well what does that tell you about drugs? Some smart, creative motherfookers on that side.":23517.gif |

| Three Horse shoes at Fairburn does some of the best pub grub I have had. To be fair it's restaurant quality. Well priced too.
