| Love it how all the Cas fans are coming out of the woodwork to say how this is the worst thing to happen to rugby league, whilst forgetting all the other players from other clubs who have walked out.
Also all the players from other clubs who have moved to union/nrl for nothing/next to nothing. As a whole they defend the salary cap to the hill. You reap what you sow.
Lawyers now involved. Would love to see a legal case involving players, challenging the right for owners of rugby clubs to discuss and vote on the suppression of wages in the industry. Cannot see how it is legal for owners to collude in this way to keep wages low, any other industry in which all the bosses got together and agreed to not raise the wages for ~20 years (not even in line with inflation) would be found to be illegal.

| Well, if he's notified the RFL and CTRLFC of his "retirement", not sure what can be done to stop him signing for Sale. It would be foolish for Cas to not try and get some form of compensation, but technically if the rumours are true would they be entitled to it?

| If he really has gone to the levels of retirement from rugby league then personally i would like to see him banned from the game for a period of time. know it sounds like a terrible thing to do but I think Denny is showing the game no respect whatsoever. He has a contract and he should respect that contract! If it doesn't work out in union he shouldn't have the ability to walk right back into a sport that he has decided to kick through this mud.
Retirement from rugby league to cross over to union is low.

| but to play devils advocate, league clubs raided union almost weekly in the 80s and early 90s. doug laughton spent more time in the valleys than he did in widnes. this sort of thing is just the reverse of this now union clubs have big bucks isn't it?

So is retiring from a championship club and signing for a SL club a couple of months later. Perhaps Rangi Chase should be part of your ban too?

They were, supposedly, amateurs so didn't have a contract to break - Solomona does.

| If it turns out that he has jumped ship, isn't he contractually tied to Cas?
It must be very annoying not only to lose a good player, but to get sod all to boot.
Well at least they've got Hardaker to soften the blow, as I'm sure Leeds fans will vouch.

Different sporting body so I'd assume not. As long as he retires from RL I'd guess Cas will be allowed to retain his registration should he decide to come back to RL. Perhaps they should have accepted the reported offers before it came to this (assuming this speculation is correct)

Only to play Rugby League I suppose. If for arguments sake a player retired and then went to play football or cricket or just get a normal job nobody would say what about his contract so I don't see why he couldn't go to Rugby Union.
The problem he'd have possibly is if he (like many others before him) flop in RU and he comes back to RL. If it's within the time period his Cas contract still had to run then maybe that might be an issue I'm not sure?
