Quote: Dave K. "What like Dorn, tansey, Dixon, carney, Webster, Channing, Gibson, Finn, Ellis, Sneyd, wheeldon, Hauraki, Millington and Marino?
Every club needs players from other places, no one can Rely fully on local players. After years of neglect by Hetherington and her team, we are finally getting our youth system in order and now it's up there with the best in SL.
In the last two years we have brought through Shaul, Crooks, Bodwen, Green, Cunningham and Hadley.
If you want to keep players, look after them, hopefully with what Powell is doing you won't lose your better young players anymore.'"
That'd be alright if you were making a good point. Except you don't. You've listed 14.
Shenton, Lynch, Milner, Huby, Massey, Clark, Boyle, Holmes, Owen, Clare, Fleming, Reynolds. That's 12 to your 14, almost 50% Cas academy.
You've just mentioned 9 in two posts (between you and the other OP), one of which rarely plays - if at all - (Cunningham), vis-Ã -vis Reynolds and one that doesn't play for you in Hodgson. If we're doing that, let's include:
Olivier Elima
Shaun Lunt
Ben Blackmore
Joe Westerman
Joe Arundel
Jordan Thompson
Liam Watts
Greg Eden
Jonathan Walker
Matty Dawson
So in the 7 years since Houghton made his debut you've produced 9 players?
Whilst a few of our players are outside this - Lynch, Huby, Elima, Lunt - in that time frame we've produced double the amount of players to play in Super League, not forgetting those in the Championships too. And a total of 22. Notwithstanding factors such as two relegations, lack of money, being at the wrong end of the table and 50% less support base.....catch my drift? To produce 22 Super League players, virtually a full squad, is testament to Cas's quality at producing players.
Sure we can't keep hold of them but that isn't necessarily down to will; there are many variable factors including money, which often come into play.
