The Tigers have announced that the planned event to open the WISH Stadium on Boxing Day have been cancelled due to a lack of interest.
The Clubs official website said :
2013 members were asked to confirm whether they thought the proposed event was a good idea and if they would attend, from which, the decision to proceed would be based on the majority vote. The poll revealed that 75% either didn't like the idea or liked the idea but still wouldn't attend.
In the club's spirit of honesty and placing its new members at the heart of the decisions it makes it has, therefore, decided to cancel the event.
CEO Steve Ferres said, "Since we weren't able to secure a suitable Boxing Day fixture, the board had been keen to hold an event that would still offer an opportunity for fans to come down to the ground and meet the new squad.
"We have been very upfront about the limitations we have with resource and given the less than enthusiastic reaction, we thought it best to get direct feedback from our fans to establish whether it would be worthwhile for us to proceed with preparations.
"I must admit I was a little disappointed by the response but appreciate that supporters want to see a game of rugby league on Boxing Day and I am sorry we can't offer that this year.
"We are still keen to run more events over the coming season. We have our pre-season dinner coming up in January with further opportunities for fans to connect with the players and club throughout 2013. Watch this space for more details."
Its a shame the event was cancelled but fair play to the Tigers for keeping the fans involved and giving us the results of the straw poll done.
