Quote: kinleycat "I can recall a good few years back, the then Nottingham Forest boss "Harry" Bassett who at the time was having a problem with expensive stroppy Dutch striker Pierre Van Hoijdonk, asking fellow Premier League managers for £1m each so he could leave said striker to rot in the reserves for the remainder of his contract (3yrs I think) leaving him pretty worthless, and the club able to sign a replacement.
The short sighted managers didn't help out, the player ended up winning and sport missed a trick, clever fellow that Mr Bassett.'"
Ah yes, good example using Dave Bassett, -that renowned thinker of our time.
Some would say that asking various teams (and ergo their paying fans) to chip in to aid a greedy mercenary to basically put his feet up in the reserves for 3 years is the act of a cretin. But no, the idea that an entirely worthless paying protest would just highlight the fact that, hey, if you too are a nob that refuses to fulfill your contractual obligations for a petulant and spurious reason, then if you chuck the teddies out you also may not have to do the job that you are vastly overpaid for. Google 'Winston Bogarde', Nostradamus, see how that one panned out.
