I had said on another thread that i would be prepared to give Millward 6 games into next season, well his team selection yesterday has changed my view....why on earth would you start an inexperienced but fairly talented young scrum half at FULL BACK?
Why didn't he play Owen at full back (after all,he was convinced he was his 1st choice selection there that we got rid of Mathers), then bring in James Clare or Josh Atkinson in on the wing?.
I bet Craig Gower & Michael Witt couldn't believe their luck and targeted the poor kid in the 1st half...it was complete professional suicide.
Also when you see the likes of Craig Huby's and Adam Milner's heads starting to drop you realise thinks are at a critical state.
There was amoment in the first 5 minutes on Sunday when Ellis ran across the line and dropped the back rower off in the channel and he was clattered - me and my pal both said "who run's that crap play anymore, you have to be more imaginitive" in the next set Gower ran the same play and their back rower poured through a gap unfettered and passed inside for Dorn to score!!!!
So, the bottom line is, could our defense have read that? Yes - should they at that level, yes - is it a question of being prepared to get hurt for a cause and they simply couldn't be bothered? Yes I think so.
It is easy to blame Basil and he has some responsibility but jesus, the run on people need to have some responsibility for their own actions.
Quote: OFFTHECUFF "Millward needs time to assemble his own team and to gel.He has been a great coach over the years. He was given time at Leigh and they won the Rail Cup.
Great coach over the years? He's won 11 of his last 51 games in charge of a full time team.
