| Methley Royals, already crowned champions, brought the curtain down on their inaugural season in style with a 36-8 victory over Swillington in the CMS Yorkshire League’s Unison Division Four Top Four Final at hospitable Normanton.
The Royals, without stand off Matty Handforth, who has joined Featherstone Rovers, had too much firepower up front for the Storm.
Prop Adam Biscomb, a colossal presence, had strong support from the likes of Eddie North, Lee Denton, Thomas Wheatley, Paul Farrar and Ian Palfreyman.
Faultless full back JP Briers came close to recording a superb long range try in the closing minutes, while stand off Tommy Skerrett was named man of the match after scoring a try and six goals from as many attempts.
Wingers Sam Payne and Michael Jacques, together with substitutes Carl Garman and Richard Scott, responded well in the backs.
Captain Simon Dickinson, operating at scrum half, opened Methley’s account with a classy 50-metre solo try in the fifth minute, and that effort was followed by a long-range touchdown for pacey centre Danny Agar off the sweetest of back-passes by Biscomb.
Swillington hit back when stand off Paul Hirst powered over but Methley eased to an 18-4 interval lead when Agar grabbed an opportunist score.
The Storm threatened to force their way back into the contest when, shortly after Skerrett had been wide with a drop goal attempt, full back Matthew Baker squeezed in at the corner following a 70-metre raid.
Skerrett, though, got Methley back into gear with a bustling touchdown and livewire second row Lee Starbuck, switched to the centre following a shoulder injury to centre John Hughes, put paid to Swillington’s hopes with an interception try on the hour.
Starbuck closed the scoring with a late try off hustling hooker Reece Willshaw’s smart pass.

| Great Britain's amateur rugby league bosses are to reconsider future visits to Italy after the abandonment of their friendly under-23s match with a France Select side in Padova.
The game was halted midway through the second half with Britain leading 22-4 following a sustained mass brawl.
Claude Oabolu, coach of the French side, said: "I am desolate. Some of our players are crazy and (centre) Diallo is especially crazy.
"One of the BARLA players said bad things about his mother and the game then blew up."
Great Britain manager Mick Turner said: "This competition is an absolute disgrace. The treatment we've had since we arrived and the respect we've had has been poor.
"We'll have to think hard about taking part in events like this in future."
o'dear bring back the biff !!!

| InterTown contest wide open
The 2008 InterTown competition remains up for grabs following a sensational 25-16 victory this afternoon by Castleford & Featherstone at Wakefield.
The result takes the visitors from the bottom to the top of the table and leaves Wakefield needing to beat Leeds at Stanningley on Sunday July 6 to have any chance of finishing in the top two.
Castleford, 12-0 ahead after 20 minutes courtesy of two tries by Cutsyke second row Gary Lumb and conversions by Olde Church Tavern scrum half Jimmy Clarkson, never looked back, although Wakefield threatened and were only 21-16 behind as the final quarter approached.
But a touchdown by Castleford Panthers winger Matthew Bacon, who had already crossed early in the second half, sealed a momentous win.
Panthers centre Matty Embleton notched the visitors’ other try and Kippax stand off Andy Walker – the English Country Services Man of the Match – landed a drop goal.
Ackworth substitute Matty Steadman was Wakefield’s English Country Services Man of the Match, while the home side posted a brace for Sharlston winger James Byrom, a try for his club teammate Gareth Davies, and two goals by Eastmoor stand off Adrian Mulcahy.
