| George Burgess played a wonderful game off the bench for South Sydney against the Sydney Roosters last night. He scored a solo try up the centre and under the posts. Pundit Phil Gould declared George Burgess to be a "monster." Peter Sterling noted with a chuckle that "another one" -- George's twin brother Tom -- was waiting in the tunnel, and that the Burgess production line was rolling on. Hollywood superstar Russell Crowe was in attendance.
If George can continue this form he will not only be a permanent member of the South Sydney team, he will be a certain and indispensable member of the England squad. It is clear that Steve McNamara cannot pick an England team that doesn't include George Burgess. And it may be only a few months to wait for Tom Burgess to join him on South Sydney's and perhaps England's bench.

| Why can't you join in existing discussions?
I'm actually torn whether this is Barry or LF.

| This not "sensationalism." It is in fact a sensational development for English rugby league. It is not out of the question that all 4 Burgess brothers will play not only for South Sydney but also for England in one game.
Consider this team of 10 forwards in a selection of 17 for a WC game:
LF: Sam Burgess
SR: Gareth Ellis, Ben Westwood, Gareth Hock
PR: James Graham, Luke Burgess, George Burgess, Tom Burgess
HK: James Roby, Rob Burrow
I am not saying it will happen. But it is not out of the question, given the advanced conditioning, fitness and coaching that the Burgess boys are receiving under Michael "Madge" McGuire. If it happens, this would make the Burgess family the greatest family in the history of rugby league.

| Jean is definitely right. George was outstanding for Souths. I'd be surprised if Luke got much of a look in with England though. Sam, obviously we know about. Tom - well if he's anything like his twin. Wow.

And there you go. You are quoting the bog standard, incorrect perception that there is advanced conditioning and fitness in the NRL. There isn't. move on.
Oh and I won't be able to get to see Tom play tomorrow... in reserve grade.

He is. I think he might be the old man who hands out the energy drinks at the end of the game.

Not sure about that Jean.
He appears to have inside knowledge of the game in Australia, he knows that the Australian Coaches are no better than in England, he knows the training and fitness is no better than England.
I am still waiting for the reason England have not beat Australia in 40 years in a series since its all the same down under and in England.
Rooster...?

| I thought George played better than Sam yesterday. If he carries on like this for the rest of the season he should be in the England squad if not the 17. But knowing Mcbannana he would probably pick Morley & Mossop after they have both been out for most of the season with injuries.

| you wouldn't want to get into a disagreement with the Burgess family.
Sam was outstanding but was put on report for a shot on Pearce (i think Pearce was sick of seeing Sam in front of him and was glad Sam went off tbh). Looked like he would play all game but then was taken off with 15 left and the game was won.
George looked like an absolute monster and topped the metre count i think (along with Sam), even though he only played limited minutes.
Sam is no doubt the more established player but George made a great impact.

| I still think that it is possible we will see an England playing squad of 17 which includes all 4 Burgess brothers, especially if they are all fit and all playing for South Sydney during the playoffs this year (which could see South Sydney playing in the Grand Final on October 6th).
How could McNamara ignore the playing choices of Michael McGuire if the former Wigan coach decides to play all 4 Burgess brothers in a team that it is at the top end of the NRL?

of course, its possible...but not that likely though.
all 4 being fit at the end of the season would be a start
