Quote: HXSparky "So is it Ok if Dane says that he made a mistake, but he's entitled to correct it by saying "sorry" for the punches he threw (I'll leave the initial challenge up to the RFL), and hence no further action?

Clearly not, but read what you've just written, and apply that to RL players on the pitch in the middle of what's always an attritional and physically confrontational sport.'"

I'm not quite sure it's a fair comparison, but I take the point.

I started this thread with,
I have decided to start a new thread as Sam seems to be mentioned on at least 3 other threads.
To me Sam was superb in the first half, at least three or four important offloades two of which resulted in trys.
Threw a silly punch in the tackle early on and was quite rightly penalised.
Booed in the first half when substituted, and more importantly in my opinion, disgracefully, as he was helped off the pitch.
Why do Fax fans dislike him, he opted to play for us instead of that useless waste of space club in South Yorkshire and accepted all the vitriol from them, did't we christen him Slamin Sam.
Sincerly hope he is well tonight,
O'h if you look at the other threads about tonight, leyther94 and hindsfordleyther79 won't be able to reply, they have been sent to bed without any supper.

I was hoping to draw a line under the incident and perhaps move on and talk about the game.
Instead we get a medical update from Dick Jones, fractured skull and bleeding.
What a great way to derail a thread and start all the stupid vitriol that followed.
Dick, I know what great work you do for your club and your passion for Leigh but next time draw a breath, you say you posted it because Mr Rowley said it. Great coach I agree, Doctor or Surgeon? not sure.
But hey don't let the truth get derailed by hearsay.
Good luck Sam, good luck Leigh.
In my humble opinion if you were in Super League this year you would not finish in the bottom three, no other club in the Championship could say that.
Anyway of to bed, apparently Wendy ball is on tv.

If you were allowed to backpedal in the Tour De France you would be the winner by a country mile.

No doubt it was a late and high shot from Manning, but as a stand alone incident I'd expect his punishment to depend on whether the red card was issued for the initial challenge or for the scrapping. What he will find himself in hot water about is starting another scrap a full 40 seconds after the initial incident when the ref had split everything up and seemingly calmed it down.

Matt, I agree, "the afters" (in my opinion) were worthy of a red card and Dane (I hope) is reflecting that it was pretty stupid. I'm sure there must have been some verbals involved, but "sticks and stones" etc...

I would like to say that, walking out of the ground, regardless of the animosity on the pitch, from my perspective (wearing a blue 'n' white shirt) the atmosphere between the fans was calm and just reflective of a tough sporting tussle.

Exactly as it should be, Sparky. Such a shame that everyone is talking about these incidents instead of what was a terrific contest.

Quite right and a game Fax should have won.

They have a great squad but are bad tactically' had they thrown the ball out a bit more the game would have been theirs.

My feelings are that there are 3 issues that will involve Dane and 1 that involves everybody.

The first challenge.
On it's own I believe it would have been put on report with the judiciary looking at it and dealing with it with any appropriate punishment to follow, as it will now.

The first punch up which Dane was directly involved in.

The second flare up and punch up which Dane was directly involved in.

Finally the rest of the incident involving all the other players.

At the root of the issue are the competitiveness of both teams, the importance of the game, what had happened in the Shay encounter and Sam's history as a player.

I hope the disciplinary look at it fairly, firmly and Dane if guilty learns from it and we all accept it and move on and not burn what has been largely a good relationship we have had as two rival clubs trying to progress in a tough sport.

Hear hear.

What happened on the pitch will be dealt with.

It is important to realise that nothing happened off the pitch. 'Fax fans are, in my humble opinion, the best. All they've been doing on here is expressing opinions and there's nowt wrong with that, so I would suggest we Leythers stick to our views of what happened and stop berating 'Fax fans for having their opinions. (bearing in mind that we are right, of course! icon_wink.gif )

HalifaxJohn, I'll mention what and who the hell I like when making my point. You post as though you speak on behalf of the forum, when it appears the majority on here disagree with most you have to offer.

Charlie, i do know you, not in person but from the posts you contribute. Your posts are mostly thoughtful, articulated and balanced, even if some rub people up the wrong way. Based on your usual posts, I felt the one that I commented on was written differantly and that you were holding back what you really wanted to say. I don't write that as fact but merely opinion.
