| Quote: mr t hall "Pliney is an articulate and level headed character. His post typified the mood on the town board that although not a rugby fan he doesn't want to see fellow sports supporters suffer and the bid process is beginning to sit uncomfortably with an increasing amount of Town fans.'"
Okay.
So the fellow sports supporters that he does not want to see suffer are Fax fans in this case and that sentiment is echoed by the Town board?
To remove this suffering it would help if the Fax board were removed and replaced by people who would pay out of their own pockets whatever he or the Town board decided was right so the pitch was in suitable condition for them to play a decent game of football on even though it's the councils job to get the pitch fit for purpose as far as is reasonably possible.
This is in a stadium that he calls "theirs" even though it's not.
His level headedness is reflected by using comments over a sports pitch such as.
"Halifax RLFC isn't fundamentally a force for evil" and even that generous allowance is done through his pig-headedness.
In his own words these articulate and level headed comments are based on 17 years of biased thinking.
He says that the Fax board are keen to point out the short falls of the stadium and yet do nothing about them.
Well out of all that he said which bits are the positives, the " This is what he will do for the good of the ground" because I can't see any of it.
Anyway at least I feel a lot easier now knowing he is articulate and level headed, thank God he's not an extremist.
No matter how uncomfortable it gets for Town fans please do not resort to the tactics used when a different take over was being hatched.

| Reading the review of the offer posted up now, it's staggering!
Still, if the council need the rent money and are desperate for it!
Questions though, who would want to be a second long term tenant with them after this, what happens if FC can't pay their rent, apart from the ignomy of putting a sporting club out on its ear, (back pats all round), who gains what from it?
Maybe we should get the RFL to buy The Shay as they did Odsal - would we be iconic enough?

To be fair our season is usually played in a lot better weather than theirs but what some of them can not seem to get their heads around this year is the fact that the pitch was knackered long before a game of rugby was played on it.

| That's it. This has little to do with the pitch. It was knackered before we touched it in 2015. It was terrible before Fax moved to the shay (I played junior football finals there twice in the 90s, and it was barren and sandy then...in April). The Town fans know this.
The is an excuse for them to spout bile. They are continually disaffected. This week the pitch, next week the rent, week after the chips

| Quote: mr t hall "Yep, I'm afraid that the more detail I hear in this rumour the less comfort I have in it.
I won't deny that there's a part of me that wants the eggers to stay out of our ground. This has sprung from their habits over the past 17 years, obviously. I see the stadium redevelopment fiasco and the Abbott bid as two things that nearly wiped out football in Halifax forever, whether they intended to do that or not. Halifax Town is too precious to me for anyone involved in/supporting those two things to be forgiven. Then when there's no sign that they will ever want to cooperate with any schemes to improve the pitch, or donate a penny of their own money towards the Shay's shortcomings that they're just as loud at condemning, it makes me think they deserve whatever they get. We'd even be able to see if Abbott has any money to speak of when he knocks on the doors of Halifax RUFC and Heath RLFC to ask if his rugby club can sleep over for a few nights.
But behind the idiots in control and their shills online, there are many people who have no dog in the fight and just love their local rugby team, who are good sportsmen despite their ignorance to all our gripes with them. There are kids with heroes, who are active because they've got the rugby bug. I honestly value those people as much as I do our own fans, and it'll be their Halifax RLFC for as long as it lasts, and I still (pigheadedly) believe Halifax RLFC isn't fundamentally a force for evil.
When representing Save Our Shay I did so without doing down either sport or club. I went for the bid itself (unjustifiable), Abbott's own integrity (nonexistent), and the way he helped run the club (terribly). There was endless material there anyway, and I'd still want to make it work for both football fans and eggers fans. I'm not sure if it's entirely relevant to Save Our Shay because it doesn't threaten the ground, but every detail asks a new question, and it has massive implications for the eggers fans.
First priority for Town is to get the pitch sorted and stop perfectly normal winters ruining our grass and fixture schedule. Yes, getting rid of the eggers would go most of the way to stop it being a mudbath by February. But it's short sighted. You never know when the current board could leave and be replaced by one who actually undergoes business with a shred of decency. Then after ten years, how does the missing money from the rugby rent get supplemented? The council may receive a fraction of the eggers' rent an average of four months late currently, but it's decent money and better than none. I still hate them for playing cat-and-mouse with the council over it, but this situation isn't permanent.
It's a really unappetising dichotomy between letting things stay as they are with the pitch underfunded and failing to drain and becoming impossible to play proper football on, and all but killing off the eggers for good when they're evicted. I don't know how we're going to sort this out otherwise though, maybe oust the Fax board but that's not really our job.
A quote from Pliny Harris from town board, indicitive of the general concensus.'"

As I recall the ground has always been owned by the Halifax borough. The football club had a very long lease (250 years?) and also paid a "pepper corn rent" or something like that. When they got so far into debt they surrendered the lease and the Council at the time paid of the said debt.

Incorrect. Cassandra is not far off. The council bought the lease back thinking they could make money out of running the place. But by this time the speedway was gone, crowds at the time were struggling to scrape over a thousand and the club (as far too often the case) was a joke with the stadium a dump.

| Courier has an article including comment from Calderdale Council's sport and active Leisure manager Mike Murray who says the pitch will be relaid in the summer.
In part it he says " The period of significant rain and snow over the winter led to problems with the pitch but we continue to allow games to go ahead approaching one game at a time and try and plan our maintenance accordingly."
"We have a maintenance window planned in the summer where we plan to remove existing grass, thatch the top 2-3 inches of soil and fully reseed and regrow the pitch surface."
"We also carry out routine drainage work on the pitch throughout the year and we are working with both clubs to see what further improvements can be made to the pitch during the summer."

What they have planned this summer is the second phase of what they did last and will supposedly make a huge difference though in some respects its still papering over the cracks.
