Widdop seems to have dropped off at Cas and looked really slow in their heavy defeat at Warrington. I noticed he wasn't in the team at Wigan . We don't want a white elephant.

Announced that McGillvary is leaving Huddersfield and hasn't said he's retiring. If he isn't, at 35 he's likely to drop into the Championship. Now that would be nice .... Walmsley and Macca on the wings!

I would question the logic in signing a 31 year old fullback as a back up but then again maybe Pickersgill is moving on and this lad comes cheap. Agree with TF about McGillvary, the guy is a beast who has looked after himself, but again its likely a 1 season fix and where would it leave Salty or maybe Walmsley gets that SL offer. Widdop I wouldn't touch with a barge pole unless he came really cheap and maybe as an assistant type role. He looks just about finished and he isn't going to be putting his body on the line for us for 30k.

I'm not fully up to date on which of the current squad have still to sign up for next year - don't think Maizen has been mentioned and think he initially only signed for a year. I still think he'd probably be better on the wing than centre - if Grix was staying don't think he'd have got another contract- but hope he gets another chance under Finn.

There was a interview with McGillvary and he said that he would only be interested in being a full time player because of family commitments he as on a evening that would stop him training as a part time player. As for the others i would be looking for another and the rest of the changes need to come in the pack for me.

Whoever we sign and whatever their position we should be signing young and hungry lads. No point at all in signing players winding down their careers.

Agree. That's why I think it would be a mistake to sign Widdop. Luke Gale didn't work out at Keighley (in fact he looked very ordinary for Keighley at the Shay, and they nearly beat us last Sunday without him). By the same token, that's why I'd have Inman over AOB who's now on the wrong side of 30.

Every side needs some experienced players on board but we already have a fair few of them so can’t see the sense in chasing a name whether that be GW or anyone else of his age group.

One problem with really young players that with the club and supporter base wanting and needing to to be competitive from the off usually when picking the team experience comes before youth and with no real reserve comp the latter hardly get a chance.

I would think that any additions would be of an in between age group who have a proven track record they can do the job the coach wants them to do now and all things being equal for a few years to come.

Nathan Peats at Huddersfield announced his retirement- Huddersfield have also announced those leaving which didn't include O'brien- may well mean he's going to see out the last year of his contract there. Disappointing if so as he was the best hooker I've seen at Halifax since Penky, but probably other areas of the team more in need of strengthening.

I there had been a choice I'd have gone for A O'b and Tom but with Brandon having another year and if A O'b is being retained then we could do worse than Moore and Inman.

Lets get him signed up if at all possible as he fits exactly into the experienced middle age bracket with a future and his best rugby ahead of him.
