My thoughts exactly - but it certainly wouldn't be boring!

Callum walker again and still talking about Muzza been Finn's assistant. It does seem to be gathering pace though with the way Lingard handled the question. I think this could be a genius move if the board can pull it off, Scott has the ability to not only give the players a bit of fire but to try and help bring the fanbase together as well. Its pretty much impossible not to like him.

| I hope we get him, not only as coach but to be on the BoD or maybe even buy the club.
Win win influencing all off field areas within the club and on the terraces, he’s so likeable hard to slag anybody off and we’ll still have IMG & the RFL to rip into so win win again, what’s not to like?

I agree. After such a disappointing season it will be a breath of fresh air to have a completely new start. We're totally skint so need a tried and trusted leader to get the club through the next couple of years and stay in the Championship whilst we regroup and get everything in order. I've suggested John Kear before as the best bet IMO, and I'm sticking with him.

| Yes in his day Kear was a decent coach and a good motivator - but that was 20 plus years ago- he'll be 70 by the start of next season and I'm pretty sure if you asked supporters of his last 2 clubs, Widnes and Bradford how they rated him the comments wouldn't be too complimentary. Much as I loved Murrell's enthusiasm as a player, I'm not convinced he'd be rhe right man for what will be a very challenging job - given the choice between him and Kear though it would be Murrell every time.

Id agree with this but thought I would have a look and see if it were actually true.
Liam Finn - Tough gig this year but saved us from relegation once given the chance to bring in his own players.
Simon Grix - Real mixed bag with two third place finishes but also part of a 9th and two 8th place finishes. 1895 Winner.
Richard Marshall - 4th, 6th, 3rd, 4th, 9th. Not bad as some of those years had powerhouse teams we could not compete with.
Karl Harrison - 3rd, 3rd, 4th plus a NRC win. Always thought we could have done better over this period and didn't kick on from the Championship win.
Anthony Farrell - Took over when we were a mess after relegation, had a 2nd from bottom, 4th and 7th. A needs must appointment.
TA - Took over from Steve Linnane and was in charge at our worst point in SL. Never stood a chance.
Gary Mercer - Took over when JP left because of money troubles, can't remember much from his time but we held our own.
John Pendlebury - What a team he put together in 98, best rugby I have seen a Fax team play. Shafted again because of money.
John Dorahy - Might have the timeline mixed up here but I think he failed to get us out of the old second division but he did make the Regal cup final.
Chris Anderson - Well he did okay didn't he.
Its clear those that took over when we had a steady ship did a lot better than those that didn't. Only problem is whoever takes over at this point is going to be doing it at the rebuild point and with no money. Its going to be a really tough ask but looking back at history its hard to argue that past players have not done that well for us.

| One of the many conundrums thrown up by this latest departure is that Liam says his decision is to give him opportunity and security.
What this involves is him walking away from being a full time coach at Fax which still had 2 years to run to become an assistant at Huddersfield, and if it is Scotty more or less the exact opposite for him.
Just interesting to see how two people can see things differently involving the same club at the same time, if of course Muzza is the man.

I might be wrong but Chris Anderson, John Dorahy, Gary Mercer, Anthony Farrel, Simon Grix were players with the club so werent returning as such.

| Chris Anderson was brought in as Player Coach by David Brooke to replace Colin Dixon. Anderson had originally signed to play for Hull KR that season, if I am not mistaken.
John Dorahy was also brought in also as Player coach and not a (former player) in the 89/90 season. We failed to get promotion as Brooke’s money ran out and issues with not paying players. The Dewsbury away game stands out, when we were dominating in the first half and rumours were they were told they weren’t getting paid at half time – and might as well stayed on the changing rooms.
Dorahy became Wigan coach a few years later. Apparently, this was on the back on the Regal trophy final where some of the Wigan senior players commented on how tactically astute he seemed to be as a coach.

| From the returning players who became coach, Martin Hall is missing; played hooker in 1998 and replaced Faz as coach in 2006, eventually becoming Director of Rugby when Matt Calland took over coaching.

| Normally like Matt Shaw but that appears a completely pointless article, confirming what had already been widely announced that Murrell wouldnt be joining, and having no ideas about any other possible candidates

| The article is pointless. It reports nothing. It was confirmed, by Murrell himself, that he wouldn’t come to Halifax as an assistant coach to Finn. He hasn’t publicly said he won’t come as a head coach so maybe he is still in the mix.
We can all assume who is or isn’t coming. We will just have to wait.

| Still not convinced Muzza would make a good head coach. When he stood in as interim after Harrison was sacked I seem to remember we lost 29 nil at home to Dewsbury, not exactly a passionate reaction for a passionate coach. Rather go for experience, tried and tested. Can't do with another "he's not up to it" season like we've just had with Finn.

| Spoke to someone connected to the running of the club and whilst not giving any names said it may be a left field choice , whether that is a good or bad thing, I'm not sure .

| Be interesting to see how many apply and what the calibre of the applicants is.
This could give another indicator of where the club are at because anyone interested would surely want to know what he was taking on and what they needed to do it.
Just simple things like.
Have the BoD got any money?
Have we even got a BoD left?
Will I get paid on time?
Will the players?
Will we have anywhere to play or get kicked out of the Shay for not paying the rent?
Not that the club are likely too say much other than.
"We have had world wide global interest and over the last 2 or 3 months we have painstakingly and rigorously vetted all interested parties."
Which likely means Left Field Larry was on holiday in Spain and will be back in a couple of weeks.
So it may be just down to whoever gets it to show some of the above.
