Quote: Diggerslad "its now nearly 10 am on monday and no story from courier about the match why ? do they know something and cant say or are they waiting for an official announcment from the club or am i just being "optimistic" ?'"

of late have noticed the courier puts todays news on later than usual, maybe aimed at getting people to buy the paper instead of reading for free online. the times are about to start charging for online users due to this.

The defeat yesterday might be little to do with the quality of the opposition. I found the following in an old book published in the 1930's called The Story of Old Halifax by a man called T.W. Hanson. The section is entitled 'The Shay Curse'. Interestingly, subsequent reprints of the this book have omitted this information.

[iAfter Shay Hall was demolished in 1903 (in order to build Skircoat Road), the Shay site was taken over by the Halifax Corporation and used primarily as a rubbish tip. Just before the outbreak of The Great War, a group of Romany travellers set up camp there and, despite the protestations of nearby residents on newly built Heath Park Avenue and Heath Hall, refused to leave. In an attempt to help the war effort as well as to encourage the itinerants to move on, the site was partitioned and one side was used by the Territorial Army for shooting practice. Unfortunately, a stray bullet killed one of the traveller's horses. Shortly after this incident the gypsies promptly left and sought pastures new. Before departing, however, the horse's owner, an elderly lady called Vadoma, put a one hundred year curse on the land bringing bad luck to anyone who 'owned or occupied this land'. According to gypsy folklore, the only way the curse can be lifted is if 'a horse and a fox are made to perfom an act of union before an audience'. The Romany travellers were never seen again.[/i

I'm guessing she doesn't mean rugby union!

Hope the Branighan and the other lads are fit for friday or we are gonna be annihilated at Fev on friday that's for certain......... We lose the ball on the first tackle, we let the opposition run at us instead of getting up and tackling, kicking was abysmal, not even making 10 yards from the KO, we hardly got over in to Leigh's half of the field a total shambles. First time I have walked out of a game but couldn't stay and watch any more of that yesterday icon_surprised.gifops: icon_surprised.gifops: total embarrassment

Well I managed to persuade a couple of my chums to come yesterday, and I can guarantee they won't be coming back in a hurry. It's only the second time I've ever left a game early, something needs to be done, and quickly. You'd of thought losing to Hunslet would have been a big wake up call. icon_beat.gif

Quote: raf rapper "What a difference 9 months make. I was on the end of some proper hardcore stick at 'Fax last year prior to a fantastic comeback by Leigh, then there was still some arrogant comments from your 'so-called' fans as you won the game !
I look forward to our league encounters this year and hope they are both televised. You have a good team on paper but can they cope under pressure? Time will tell.
Plenty Leigh Fans at your place today, hope you bring as many to the LSV !!!'"

Wasn't that a league encounter yesterday then? icon_wink.gif

Quote: Trustafox "I'm glad someone pointed this out. One from the Alanis Morisette school of irony that was.

As for the Champ 1 comment, bit cheeky, but fair. ]Might want to keep quiet on the subject of relegation to champ 1 if this form continues though![/b]'"

Obviously you gauys are watching 'Fax every week, so I accept you know what's going on. However, we (deservedly) lost at York in the NRC, and the prospects didn't look good. Then we hammered Fev and their fans were talking relegation. (for them) Now look at them - apparently unbeatable!

So, keep the faith. When your injuries clear up, and the confidence comes back, you will still be the team to beat - along with us, hopefully!

Now this will be interesting WILL Calland keep Blacky in on Friday or do the right thing and DROP him???
He is well out of form and that none tackle where he turned his back on the right wing was disgraceful, he should have been hoisted off just for that he did not want to know imo.
Come on Calland is he such a favourite of yours that you dare not drop him???

He must be one of those you are talking about playing themselves out of the team surely???

Only way for him to play to get back into form is to get fully fit.

At the moment he isn't doing what he does so successfully (running at defences, spotting gaps etc) because he is obviously injured. Instead he throws well below passes putting pressure on the rest of the players and doing his own confidence no end of harm. A fit Black would have easily gone past Wobbie and under the posts, I have no doubt, saying that, Paul did incredibly well to get back.
