Yeah but the only reason you have a strong first team is because 100% of your squad budget is going into the first team and first team only. If 100% of Widnes' budget only went into first team I'm positive it would be a different story.
I'm not denying you don't have a right to apply. Would it not make more sense to save the money that it will cost in terms of time invested, documentation produced/printed etc to submit a bid and invest that time and money somewhere where it's more needed? Such as defining a youth strategy or long term business plan?
It's pretty obvious where your short falls are and you don't need to waste time and money on a bid for someone else to point it out to you.'"
I thought the RFL had made it impossible for us to have a youth policy? We are just one step ahead of the game.
Great move by the club. Now we need to push on and start bigging the club up in the push for SL and start putting pressure on the people that matters. Lets show the RFL what a farce they have turned this in to. Our bid must be ahead of the likes of Cas, Wakey and Salford already?

The RFL have Quashed any hopes of any team in Championship being able to get a youth set up and said widnes are the only ones allowed cause they can afford. As previously stated by others, this is only to help bolster widnes application to get into the corrupt double standard league ( as it is at the moment ).

| Great crowd, didn't seem too far fetched to me i brought 3 extra ppl down today, and it appears i wasn't the only onewho did. Well done fax, ive given up on super league all that matters to me is what we do on the pitch there is nothing better than watching your team win, widnes may get the licence but we are having a good ride here, cant wait for the fev game gonna be a classic be good to see a packed post office road. Fev have outplayed us twice this year but we have match winners across the park and a lot to prove!!

That'd be my bid basis for Fax! Not to say we are the best in Championship but to say we are better then these 3!

| Why not form a"franchise" system at little cost with the Calderdale clubs-Siddal/Ovenden/Elland etc and use this as a basis for a junior set up.Bulls,Wigan etc raid Calderdale for their juniors any way.RLFC are mad on franchising why not use the same process for our junior development and freeze out the super league poachers!.

| The other way widnes have been preparing for super league is by getting beaten lots.
Frankly from their fans attitude, they clearly think they are above everybody else so super league can have them as their new whipping boys.
Let's hope their "phenomenal yoof" don't get too badly broken. We'll be happy paying to see a successful side in a nice stadium, thanks very much.
A mediocre position in this league with players borrowed from super league doesn't bode well for widnes. Enjoy super league and don't forget your calculators - we won't miss your arrogance

| Heard from a reasonably reliable source, that rather than the club fudging the figures, we were "told" to from on high so that there would be more than just 1 club [iapplying[/i for a licence. What the source couldn't understand is why we have gone along with this further charade??

Do you know, that suggestion is so ridiculous, but at the same time steeped with RFL stupidity, that it could be true They have realised 99.9% have sussed the reasoning behind the 5 'new' criteria, so thought they would pretend that there is competition to get in. Whether it is true or not it is quite funny.

| Doh! How stupid of me. When the stand was evacuated due to the fire alarm, you made them all go through the turnstyles again

| How anybody can argue the game is in decline is beyond me.
Fax achieved a great attendance yesterday (Lets hope that can be sustained) and the challenge cup final, has only 1000 tickets left, making it the first sell out since 2007.
Millenium magic taking a new format next year.
Big applause to the Super League/Rfl Chiefs.
Well Done.

Not the view of most luckily! I have enjoyed going to the grounds in the lower divions (especially the Shay) but I am also proud of and confident in our SL bid and long term plans... we are investing in the future of the club and the game and you think this is a bad thing?
Once Fax get youth set up running you'll be a major challeneg to current SL clubs and I hope that day is sooner rather than later

The reason they can afford it is because the budget is not being ploughed 100% into the first team like other teams in this league.

Again as stated above this is because 100% focus is not going into throwing cash at the first team. There is a long term plan in place that is bases around blooding new youth and brining them through.
This will pay off better returns in the long run. We are looking towards the future built around local young talent. Not focusing on the here and now with over the hill journeymen.
Look at Wigan and the development they have in place. A couple of years ago they were fighting relegation, and now they are topping the table with some phenomenal players that have come through their youth system. This will bode them well in years to come as lots of clubs are still playing catch up.
I’m not claiming we have a youth system as good as Wigan, it will take a while to bed in, but the investment is already paying off. You just have look at the results from this year’s under 18 academy league, Widnes are turning over Super League sides left right and centre.
And a number of these under 18’s have featured in the Widnes first team this year (Scott Yates, Tom Kelly, Jack Smith, Danny Craven).
Quote: Ackropj "A mediocre position in this league with players borrowed from super league doesn't bode well for widnes.'"
Over the course of this year we have had 7 players on loan or dual registered from Super League sides. Two of which only played 1 game before getting injured (Chaz I’Anson & Chris Dean) so I hardly say they count.
So 5 Super League players brought in to help with cover during an injury ravaged season is hardly over the top?
