Only guessing about the Sam issue but what about this as a scenario.

Fax need a number 9.

KH has connections with Salford and enquires about Goddard.

Salford say maybe but we would like to have Barlow involved in the deal something which had not even been thought about at Fax.

One thing leads to another a tempting offer comes to the table and things start to happen and the Sam to Salford switch seems to look likely.(At least in the rumour mill world.)

A short time later the people involved start to give this a bit more thought and the implications become clearer and the pendulum begins to swing in the other direction.

Sam wants to stay............................. deal cools...................................Sam stays.

None of it had anything to do with money problems or buckets at all.

Aye saw it on the Fev forum last night and as you lads have said gutted for Sam Smeaton he has been one of the form centres this year again and a joy to watch.
Some kind of training accident with a knee dislocation I think was mentioned, not good, hope he gets back from it.

I did think Officeboy's comment was a bit offensive and OTT but I also thought your comment was a little bit paranoid. Surely any new ideas to raise money for the club are to be welcomed and applauded, I fail to see how it even suggests financial desperation. Apparently over 100 people have already paid their £25 and the promotion still has 2 weeks to run.

I believe that the first time this sort of thing was done was on Honda's F1 car a few years ago. I believe that was quite successful but they did have a bit more space to fill. icon_biggrin.gif

I believe that the first time this sort of thing was done was on Honda's F1 car a few years ago. I believe that was quite successful but they did have a bit more space to fill. I actually never said it did other than my flippant comment yesterday where I pointed out merely that the thought had crossed my mind!!

Having been involved with the club I know how it feeds hand to mouth and the close season is especially tough!!

I mean we haven't got into financial strife before / recently now have we??

I'm sure we aren't but as I POSTED it was merely a passing thought I shared after seeing this thread and I didn't get the reasoning behind selling Sam to Salford who aren't exactly dripping in gold coins themselves!! Now if it was moneybags Wire, different story!!

Still Murgy getting obnoxious is nothing new.

Any reasonable means to raise cash would be a good thing and wearing shirts with actual players names on them would not be every adults cup of tea.

Just me again but I don't care how good they are or who they are at my age having BARLOW or FIELDHOUSE on my back would not be my first wish, now if I was a young lad that would be different.

Answer to the problem and maybe how to generate some interest in more shirt sales and have a bit of fun as well is to have your own name or some version of your own name or club or mixture of both on your shirt now that might be different.

Could it be that simple and yet very effective.

Incidentally I have declined the offer because I don't want To**er to be seen in public. icon_lol.gif

Almost 10 pages into this thread before I manage to post, hmmmmmm

I didn't start this "rumour".

I don't know who Sam Barlow is but I hear he's a good player.

I didn't used to play amateur RL against his dad.

I didn't have any info/gossip to pass onto my Fev friends on this occassion.

Who is Stuart Fielden & does he have a brother ?

Josh Barlow will go OK at Swinton if he gets a regular run at hooker/dummy half.

Partick effing Thistle ? You very confused child.

A bit early for xmas carols but Ging gong merrily on high.

If there's no smoke, will Fev choke today ?

I don't know how Faxlad66 has resisted this thread for 9 pages.

Jamie Bloem is guest speaker at the ex-players do on friday night at the Shay.

You all need to buy the brand new Marillion album "sounds that can't be made" it's wonderful.

Up at this time to read an RL fans forum, no way, just couldn't wait to see my old pal Gary Widdop's lad play the biggest RL game of all in just over half an hour, GOOD LUCK LAD.

Have a great day of rugby league everyone, win, lose, booze, behave yourselves, have fun, £hit in the bath if you wish but have a great day 'cos it's a bl00dy long off-season.

Is that everything ????????

Think Pete is on long shifts with a short turn around to nights this weekend - probably a good job with all this going on!

25K is not that much money really and thought we have had a couple of seasons of posting small profits. Why then do we need the money? Personally I would like the club to either confirm/deny these rumours as I think its not doing the club and its future any good IMHO.

Sam off the payroll will free up funds to recruit 2-3 players on low wages.

Why do we need to release Sam? I would have thought with Penky, White, Gannon, Haley, Aizue and Josh Barlow gone and us really only signing Bracek and Tonks we would still have some money to sign good players. Sam is 100% Fax man and gives everything plus is one of the best players outside of SL. Why would we want or need to release him? If we are making a profit and likely spending up to the Max why do we need to release a top local lad? Many questions that for me I cant understand why we would need or want to release Sam or anybody especially at this stage.
