Quote: Wheels "Paul Jackson maybe looking for a Yorkshire club?'"

Paul has had a good season but the best years are behind him.

There is a definate trend at Fax for signing up good quality younger players who want to be at the club and Jacko doesn't fit that catergory anymore.

Mennell and Potts may or may not be additions but I would not have thought they would be classed as "significant" signings.

I was overhearing all sorts of chat at the game yesterday among which was both Thacks and Tiger are on their way to the Rams.

Just more rumour, who the hell knows??

Answer the Fax coaching staff and BOD, it will be very interesting to see how things work out.

Thacks to Dewsbury is apparently done,

Handforth I've seen linked to Batley and Dewsbury, but also heard he may retire

I just dont think he is good enough to play for a team competing at the top of this league. You look at players like Finn, Kain, Brambani, Ridyard, and Thackery isnt in the same class. Its ironic really because he reminds me a lot of Brambani when he played for us in that he was bobbing around a lot but good judges realized he wasnt really that involved for all of his `action`. Brambani has matured in to a very good player though so maybe Thackery can too.

I would also say the same about Patterson, the Ashalls, Handforth in that they wont really let you down but are not good enough to be regulars in a team that wants to win trophies. Its a harsh game and a few of our players have been found out this year.

Why are they rejects icon_confused.gif: does that make robbo and manning rejects icon_confused.gif Do you wish we had not signed them icon_confused.gif: because they leave one club to join another does not make them rejects. Maybe they want to better them selves, more chance of wining something. That's the bullfrogs upset now icon_lol.gif

Does not bother me which club we get them from as long as they improve team, and menal will do this.

They're offering a bit of money about, didn't they offer robbo more than us but he opted to stay where he could contend for trophys?

That's going to be a big thing for next year, with the restructure imminent. Joining a top end championship club will be more attractive to many. But Halifax, Fev, Leigh, Sheffield ect will want to be building young sides which will develop and last. As well as possibly be able to complete against the SL clubs who don't make the grade.

If we use next season cleverly, we could have a decent settled squad and be a year in front of the relegated teams who will have a degree of rebuilding to do.

Whatever happens. We'll be there or thereabouts. Sheffield Fev and Halifax are the top 3 in the championship. Leigh probably make up a "big 4". Batley look to be getting picked apart with players linked with us, G.Moore already signed for Fev, I think 2 have signed SL deals too. How they recruit will be interesting but they've been linked with a lot of dewsbury players which wouldn't go down well!

It would effectively be 7 ex Batley players (depending on who stays), if we had picked Fev apart like that then we would probably be happy but we didn't. So a 50% ish success rate on the Batley rejects (Hesketh never happened and Handforth just isn't good enough).
The issue I feel is that we think we are one of the better teams around at this level therefore we should be signing better players and I don't think that Harrison has set the world alight there, we seem to have more props than a Fev pit, and some good ones, but everybody knows we have issues at half back.
Let's see what happens but something needs to be done to get the crowds back in and a big signing to build excitement is what's needed and I'm not sure Liam Finn will do that, good as he is.

I suppose it's the old adage that with hindsight everyones a genius and some of the signings could possibly have been different.
Also at the time when KH first took over there was still not much prospect of us progressing so he signed players that he knew and thought would do a job for us.

Taking Hesketh as an example, at this level he had a good record and looked to be a good guy to have on board.
As it turned out he couldn't rediscover his old form that a year or season or so earlier had SL clubs showing interest in him.

KH did not let feelings or anything else get in the way of replacing him.
The same will apply to others that have been given a chance to do a job but as he said after the Fev game either wouldn't do it or couldn't do it.

Now the situation seems to be changing with a chance for the club to progress the BOD and coaching staff are clearly getting as many quality players who are of the right age with the right experience and ability onboard.

It is one step at a time gradually building for now but with one eye on the future.
Any new recruit will in their opinion improve the club on the field for the next step.

If and when we ever get a chance to be in SL then some of these players will be good enough and some won't and at that time better players will be replacing them.

Considering the finacial climate out there, the state the game has been in and how low the crowds have been how fortunate are we to have the people at the top in place that inspite of all of this are doing what they are doing.
I would't swap Fax for any club in this context all things considered.
As they have said we are a club on the up that people want to play for and that is a rare thing these days.

I'd be happy with both those signings, Potts is a pacey winger who has always impressed me, Mennell seems to be highly rated and along with Karl Ashall should hopefully create quite a good partnership.

The main place we're needing to recruit in is the half-back position, we've seen what a quality half-back (Murrell) can bring so we need to go big there.

As per Urban Carrots comments....Agreed! If we are in for Potts and Mennell then personally I would view them as very good positive recruitment. Forget the Batley link. Players have to go where they get paid. Batley have and have previously had Fax players so whats the issue? We need to stay positive and back our club.

We've been taking players off Batley for years. Didn't we get Andy Spink and Dean Lawford off them. Amongst others.

Likewise they have Ben Black and Miles Greenwood there, and possibly Byron Smith (not fully upto date).

High turnover of players at this level means that there's always going to be movement betwee. Some clubs
