Come on people - this Des bashing is embarrassing. Would we rather David Brook not have been involved at our club? OK, he wasn't mouthy but he put out plenty of fanciful stories too (Serge Blanco and Phillipe Sella )

I dont mind soneone putting mon ey into a club, Id certainley have done it had my numbers come up on last weeks Euro Millions.

The thing that I think gets on most peoples threppenies is the fact that the guy just seems to be power mad. I know the RFL didnt want to present the lasgue leaders shield until the home game against us, but why did he have to collect it? surely It was the players who had earned it? They could have given them the sheild after the game? Also it was nice of him to read out a letter he'd sent himself at half time???

He'd be better off just keeping quiet & letting the players take the glory & the plaudits they deserve for what they have achieved over the past couple of years

what would that have looked like if the team had collected it and then you stuffed us ?

I think we have a "cultural divide" with the Des thing. In Halifax ... Des looks like the type of bloke you'd ask to do your pointing or change your exhaust. We can't get our heads round how such a scruff can have so much money to throw around. As I say, it's probably because we're more "refined" down here, no offence barra fans.

As has already been posted , if it is 5 grand a man it is not coming out of his pocket but is just the prize money divided up amoung the players , normal practice at all clubs both SL and below

It wasn't just the players that earned it, it was everyone associated with Barrow RL including Des and the other (unknown to most) members of the BOD who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

Des received the Shield because THE RFL INSTRUCTED THE CLUB THAT THEY WOULD PRESENT THE SHIELD TO DES AT 7:15pm BEFORE THE FAX MATCH. Jon Livesey (Vice Chairman), posted the e-mail from the RFL on the Barrow Forum to that effect.

Many fans outside South Cumbria have the impression that DJ is an enemy of the sport and throws his cash around like confetti. Anyone who has dealt with him (agents/players etc) know all too well that that isn't the case. He drives a very hard bargain. (and BTW, the RFL are full of praise for what Barrow RL has achieved in the last couple of years and see Des as a breath of fresh air).
