| For me, with what we were able to put out, the defeat isn't a huge deal;
I do wonder wether we may look for one/two dual registration players to come in and freshen things up especially whilst we are struggling for numbers.

I wonder what something like that would mean to a Rugby League team without a wealthy backer.
Look at the mess Liverpool r in. 2 money grabbing yanks in charge & 3-400 million in debt

There's nothing like a defeat to bring out the dead-wood, negativity, etc etc.

You cant blame Calland for miss tackles, knock ons but for me he is responsible for discipline ( On and Off the Field), Defence and the team having a plan and working as a team to achieve results. What I fail to understand is that we have let in 336 this year-only the bottom 4 have a worse record! We all know Fax have problems defending. Yet I see NO change in this area. Discipline (Both in Defence and attack) is awful. We should know what each Ref is like and what they will focus on. Yet once again we commit the same stupid mistakes. We try forcing passes that simply are never on-Aizue, Maloney, Penkywicz , Black etc. Each time we lose or struggle, Calland blames his players for not sticking to the game plan. Why not? They are his players he has brought in. Why cant he inspire them when the going gets tough? Why cant Fax go back to basics when we struggle?
Quote: "The criticisms aimed at Calland & his staff for each & every loss are in my opinion grossly unfair.
Do people think that we practice the art of losing the ball, missing a tackle, losing to a better team ?
Tonight we were beaten by a better team, so what. No Tamghart, Wrench, Haley, Larder & blokes putting their hands up to play for the team when they were clearly less than 100%, I'd say let's see what the end of the seaon brings and not judge anyone now.'"
Its the manner of the defeats mate. Its the way we never sort out the problems which cause us to lose or struggle. I sadly cant see us winning a trophy under Calland due to the reasons above and these problems have been there since Calland started. If you cant defend you are unlikely to win a trophy. It may look good scoring heaps of tries but against a good well drilled side its not that easy.

Spot on fella, I think some of the people that take offence at the criticism are letting sentiment rule, hearts rather than heads etc. Our defence is appaling, there is absolutely no way anyone at the club can get away from that or try and hoodwink us, we see the same games and are more impartial, defence is 50% of the game, and were one of the worst in the league, when you add to that our complete lack of game plans, its worrying. Every year that Matt has coached us teams have undone us by nothing more than playing a simple brand of rugby, disciplined, committed and miserly in defence, what does he want to achieve with his freedom rugby? does he want to make friends and keep his players underachieving and coasting along, or does he want to be a serious rugby coach and win. Id guess he likes his job because he doesnt seem to be under any pressure to fix things that are going wrong.

| Think defence is more than 50% of the game - if the other team can't score they can't beat you!!!!

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

If you score more than the opposition , you'll win every time , we had a defensive attitude last year , it really worked for us

In the cold light of day, in hindsight, and with a good night's kip I can honestly say that this is the best post on this thread. I hold my hands up to being negative at times and typing in the heat of the moment, and for that I apologise to those I may have offended, instead of waiting to calm down and assess my thoughts before hitting a key.

I agree. One defeat in 9. Still
not bad going. Yet all the idiots are back baying for Callands head. People wanted structure and for us to build pressure and we did in the first half, if we had continued playing that style they would have be moaning at how predictable we are.
All these people also claiming that we are skint. No one has actually backed these remarks up have they? Look at the comments by The idiot the other night posting about players wages. Again no proof what so ever. Makes you wonder if people are only ever happy when they have stuff to moan at. Prehaps they should sod off and watch Bradford, because they certainly don't seem to be supporting Halifax.

Are you being serious, do you want another Oldham on your hands
I think people are always going to be very quick to jump on Callands back, because of our points against column and the fact that for the past few years we have had the best side in the league and come up with sweet fa. I admire TS's and your pragmaticism but the simple fact is if you were to add back in Salford and Celtic to the league our progression is then in a real light. We should aim to be the best, not be content with competing and finishing 3rd in a league like this. I and many others simply see that at the moment we are missing a massive opportunity to galvanise the town round RL, we will miss out SL, its highly likely we wont win the GF this year, because we show no sign of defensive competence. Support is fine and if all some people want to do is 'watch rugby', thats fine too, but if you two are genuinely interested in Halifax 'doing themselves justice' then you have to admit, we can do better, and shouldn't think it has to be with this coach or some of these players, excellent on paper, but only good on grass.
I for one want the best we can possibly get, its never going to be Matt, and you will realise this one day too.

Who said anyone was content by finishing 3rd? Did Fax do them selves justice against Barrow at home, Leigh away this season? I cant recall you coming on here saying how bad we had played then? One defeat against the top of the league in 9 and you come crawling out of the woodwork. I wouldnt be supprised if you are just a FC Town fan on the wind up. In fact come to think of it - you probably are.

Do you know what, if we were to become so structured that it is boring to watch some of the fools would complain that we don't have any flair anymore
I think our all-out attack from anywhere policy is like a breath of fresh air to watch week in & week out. I actually find watching some ofthe SL games so boringly predictable I switch off without seeing the final hooter. The modern day coaching has tried to make our game sterile, watching 'Fax is a real roller coaster ride most of the time and I love the thrill of it all.

I think that is key here and I agree with you. Fax play a very entertaining style of rugby but are going to have off day's when things dont go well, mistakes are made and the opposition take full advantage of it. HRLFC have earned a lot of respect from supporters of other clubs given the brand of rugby they play but it does have its risks and any lack in confidence will see more and more mistakes creep in.

Nope, im a season ticket holder and can remember watching Joe Kilroy and Geoff Robinson, I've seen highs and lows, Ive watched us from Nottingham, Limoux and Wembley to Toulouse, and want to see more highs, Barrow were poor against us, I was more impressed with us against Dewsbury where we showed patience, control and good defence, I think we have too many 'off the cuff' players, not enough defensive talent and too many aging forwards who lack the energy of some of the other sides. Were a great attacking team on our day, a joy to watch. I would be much happier with more young players in the forwards of the Ostick and Maloney ilk, and i think we could lose a few of the loose cannons and still have enough guile with Branighan, Gleeson and people like Bowman coming through to build a propper side. Were not built to win ugly, but unfortunately in all sports, some days you have to. Matt has all his eggs in one basket and its naive. Were building teams for 12 month periods, id prefer to see us take a step back and clear the decks at the end of the year, bring in a decent coach who can get us organised, remove some of the bad apples, sort the wheat from the chaff and move forward, we have guys who are good individually, who may get on well off the field, but like Fabio says 'when you make wine the grapes are always different' im afraid the current batch wont make a vintage, time to replant.
p.s. I am also massively impressed with what Neil Aspin has done for Town, it just proves that the right man in the hot seat can change fortunes quickly. I dont consider it a sin to like sport in general, nobody would be happier than me to see the honours board with a new entry on it. We should play to win, not just to entertain.
