I think a Bradford Bulls fan has said it best on FB, as much as we are all fans, be very careful what you put in to the club and do not put in more than you can afford because it has to be close to zero chance that you would ever see any of that money back. The BOD or whatever is left to them need to be very clear from this point because over two weeks we have had very different outlooks from them and I think they need to lay all the cards on the table which they are not doing at the moment.

What is the plan for the future? We are clearly not managing the debt and fans donating money as "loans" is certainly not a long term answer. I think Dvada on the other thread puts it right when he asks about the board saying where this 700k that they have supposedly put in has gone. The main question at this point with HMRC likely to wind the club up, if they refused an extension is highly likely that we have asked for and used them previously and this is the final notice, is it worth the club carrying on? May as well start afresh with a clean slate and lets get out of the Shay and get begging to other clubs for somewhere more sustainable to play. What a mess.

That Panthers rebrand really worked wonders didnt it!!

Paying big money you didnt have to Eden and Widdop , not paying HMRC or stadium rent and now wanting fans to bail you out.
Should be a points deduction and relegated to League 1, along with being stripped of next years central funding which should be re disributed accross the other Championship teams.

Teams like Fax need to cut their cloth accordingley.

Quote: MP "From the statement the tax man is the main debtor they want to serve first. However in your initial post TF you stated the money owed to the tax man was 47k alone. Goodness knows what it is now.'"

I can only guess what the monthly PAYE creditor "should" be, but £47k did seem rather high when I first looked at the accounts. I've looked at Widnes and York and they had similar amounts outstanding. Fax did say in today's statement that other clubs have also asked for extensions. Like GFB says .... "What a mess".

London fan chiming in here...
Like Bullseye, I hope things work out for you. Really.
Probably because of my age, I've always seen you as a potential BIG club. Well, at least bigger than some of IMG's A-rated ones now.
Fans of rival teams gloating at the prospect of the demise of another rugby league club should be shot.

Pollsters doing Excellent job - say recent polls.:

Quote: Faxlore "There is no way the council would sell the shay site for housing/ shopping or what ever and then plow that revenue into a new stadium. Even if that stadium is smaller. One the council sell the Shay, and I feel they will sooner than later, they will be done with supporting professional sport in this town.'"

Ok, shot in the dark time, but it's obvious the council needs a partner for the site. You guys might know more but have they actually approached anyone? Logically (i know, this is local government...) with the Piece Hall taking off, there will be demand for more hotel capacity. There's a decent amount of land there, and obviously really close to the centre and train station as well. Could a national hotel chain be persuaded to come in? Offer them the South stand to demolish and build a 3 or 4 storey hotel across the bottom of the ground, incorporating that unfinished segment in the corner. Leaving the ground, 3 stands, a hotel partner anchoring it. Or has this ship sailed in the current climate?

After what we went through, I know far too much now about insolvencies, administrators, the poisoned chalice of rfl "help" so I really feel sorry for you guys. Hope it can get sorted.

Back in 2019 there was this article in the Courier, bit of a read with all the adverts but it answers some of the questions.

Hotel potential at The Shay as blueprint is drawn up to develop the stadium
By Ian Hirst

The Shay Stadium in Halifax

The future of the Shay Stadium will be put in the spotlight as Calderdale Council leaders discuss how the complex can be developed.
Calderdale Council’s director of public services Zohrah Zancudi has outlined in a report to the Place scrutiny board the potential developments of the stadium.

One of the key aspects is the future of the West Stand after a structural survey revealed a number of issues.

In her report Zohrah Zancudi said: “It is likely that in the next couple of years the stand could be condemned. This would result in a decision being required over whether to close the stand or make significant investment.
“We had looked to work with a hotel building company to provide a hotel at the stadium.

“This was linked to the development of the annex and the progress stopped at this stage. If demand exists for another hotel in Halifax then Corporate Asset and Facilities Management can be requested to look into this with a development company.”

The closure of the West Stand would not affect the provision of games to both professional clubs due to current attendance figures as currently only two of the four stands are used for match days.

The report also showed how vital it was for the council to work with both FC Halifax Town and Halifax RLFC to help with development of the Shay.

“The Shay Stadium is the principal sporting venue in Calderdale and in terms of size and operational capacity it offers great potential for future growth in both sport and event management,” said the Calderdale Council director.

“There remain challenges to realise this potential fully; we need to look at the stadium as a whole and develop a strategy for development.

“The next stage of development could depend on the success of both professional clubs.

“We need to look at how we can support and enable the clubs to be more successful. We need to work closely with both clubs to increase revenue to allow investment.”

One option is potential sponsorship of the stadium.

There is currently no sponsorship agreement for the Shay, with the previous sponsor going into administration. The intention is now for the council to work with the clubs to seek more sponsorship opportunities.

A number of development proposals have been considered in the past to move the stadium onto a more commercial footing including the sale of the annex .

The Council spoke to two potential buyers of the annex but at the latter stages of both negotiations the deals fell through.

There has been no further interest in this space.

Potential use as a storage facility for the Council could be considered. The Asset Planning Team have recently estimated £70,000 to remove the structure.

As there is no financial benefit to this then unless the Council need the space for a commercial venture it will keep it mothballed.

Positive financial outlook

The accounts for the Shay Stadium show a projected operating deficit of £214,035 for the financial year 2018-19.

However, if you factor in the cost that the council would otherwise have to pay for office space used by staff at the stadium and to hire rooms for training outside the organisation it comes to £170,000.

If this is taken into account then the overall operating loss is £44,000. It is expected that this can be reduced to zero by the end of financial year 2019-20.

The main sources of income for the Shay Stadium come from the rugby and football clubs and from the catering companies contracted to provide services there.

In addition, income is received from the various organisations that use the Shay Stadium regularly.

The council says it will continue to invest in the stadium to keep it safe.

The Place Scrutiny Board will meet to discuss the plan tonight (Thursday) at Halifax town hall at 6pm.

The only 2 options for survival imo are total opposites
1. Somehow engineer purchasing the shay. Personally i cant see it happening .

2. Probably the real chance of survival is to get out of theshay and find an alternative home where you could grow with your own earnings from a bar and function area. I can only realistically think of one place and they also play under the name Halifax.

A bit off topic but about income streams. She have put most SRL on that stupid streaming where you watch live, can’t record or re watch a full match. It’s just c%#p. Yet the last few weekends the BBC have shown live marches. Are Sky selling their rights to the BBC for how much. There are fewer Australian matches being show as well. In fact none over the last few weeks. The sport is dying

To be fair, of the SL games I've seen recently they are not worth re watching. Standard most be at his lowest. Even Warrington v Saints yesterday, saw last 60 mins and it was dire.
