On thread drift:
[quote="tb":24qn1m99]Tough. Conversations develop. It's their nature.[/quote:24qn1m99]
Little Pepe went to nursery school one day wearing his Widnes hat. His teacher asked him why he was a Widnes fan. He said, “Because my parents are.” His teacher said, “That’s not good. What would you do if your parents were drug dealers and hookers?” He replied, “Well then I would be a Warrington fan.”
[i:24qn1m99]There's a Wooly over there, baggy kecks and feathered hair
with a 3 star jumper half way up his back, that’s a fecking Wooly back![/i:24qn1m99]

| Quote: thunderheed "I would imagine that there are more amateur rugby league players in the Fylde than there are on Tyneside but that would be a guess and I have no figures to back that up.
Can you explain what rules Thunder have "bent to the max"?
The Aussies with EU passports are allowed by EU law to unrestricted work in the EU (I believe). Thunder merely employ them in accordance with that law and with the RFL rules and regulations.
Thunder work within the quota system laid down to them by the RFL, I admit that may be unfair on the other teams in the competition but that rule was in effect when the comp started and these arguments always seem to surface either when Thunder win a game or some team realise that they may be in relegation trouble.
My view is that the teams that go down will go down because they have lost games not because of what other teams do. If we go down it wont be because of a ref giving a dodgy decision it will be because we weren't bloody good enough to stay up.'"
I think what winds people up is that the RFL seem to intervene at the Home Office to get work permits for some clubs and not others.

| Quote: thunderheed "Thunder had 4 quota players yesterday. Aitken, Younquest, Kahler and Henderson (Hendo was born in Torquay and plays for Scotland but is classed as an Aussie). As far as I am aware that is the number we are allowed to field.
Of the other Aussies on the pitch Nash, McAlpine & McBride have British passports, Branighan has a Maltese passport and Franze has an Italian passport, all these are available to all English teams as none-quota players.
Rugby league in the NE is 10 years old... we are still 100 years behind the Heartlands in player and game development and rely on Aussies to make up a major part of our squad while we try to develop the game. As far as I am aware the number of foreign players we can use decreases every couple of years'"
But how on earth can you afford them when you only get a few hundred at your games???
Are they full time at your club? Otherwise what do they do all week???
Your support compares with Doncaster and look at them, I smell something,?

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

I'd hazard a guess that they do community development work

| Quote: Starbug "I understand the point you are making , but it isn't an exact science though
Mr Murphy's remarks after winning the semi final in 71 " we will win the final no doubt " didnt seem to fire up Leeds very much
Sure as hell put a shed load of confidence into the Leigh team though
Fax are a team that thrives on confidence as yesterdays second half showed
I get really p155ed when I hear any coach say that " defence wins games "
No , scoring more than the other team wins you games
[sizeAt the moment Fax are never beaten , they just run out of time[/size
[sizeThe above quote can be used as sig material as long as the relevant payment is made [/size
Paid by whom???
In Halifax the Calderdale community coaching trust pay for the community players, not the club.

| Quote: griffax "Matt was totally right in saying we'd like to sign 3 players with NRL experience, so would the other teams in our league (apart from Thunder & no doubt Toulouse who manage to do it!)
For far too long coaches have been afraid to say what they think by the RFL bigwigs, all RL fans know that it's no longer an even playing field, initially it was Catalans, then Celtic, now Thunder & Toulouse. All fair & decent supporters/coaches/players want is a fair chance, something sadly the RFL did away with years ago!!'"
Exactly, the sad thing is we get slated for telling the truth and painted as dinosaurs.
Hey I know that the clubs outside the 'heartlands' need an allowance so they can get any RL players but how do they manage to get all these Aussies whether they are EU passport holders or not when other clubs can't???

Oh they do do they , so thats how you do it
I'd guess the N,East are similar to South Wales , ie there will be considerable RFL central funding for community development officers

| These conspiracy theories make great reading, we get the additional quota and nothing else - everybody has their views on the rights and wrongs of this, so not really worth going over old ground.
I fully respect that everybody has an opinion, but if you are going to enter the debate at least get your facts right.
As has been stated, a lot of the Aussies are on EU passports and these players are available to all to sign - we just happened to get in first - there is nothing to stop any other club doing the same.
We have also suffered with the UKBA rules - we have been blocked from signing 3 players who played in this country last year (two for us and one at Skolars) - no bending of the criteria.
The cost of these players is also often misunderstood - quite simply, it is cheaper and easier to get overseas players to base themselves in the North East, than it is to get UK players to uproot homes and jobs.
Since receiving the additional quota, Thunder have always made enquiries about UK based players, but some of the figures they ask for are ridiculous.
We had the same quota earlier in the season when you stuck 70 on us and nobody said a word.
Unless people can back up their conspiracy claims - the claims have no credence.
It is a shame that a great game yesterday is ignored because losing fans can not take defeat at the hands of "the likes of Gateshead".
Gateshead fans will continue to hold their heads up at every game and wish fans of opposition clubs the best for the future in the greatest game - even if that clearly not reciprocated.

Therin lies the problem , much easier to get Aussies on a holiday for a few months who can be employed cheaply quite often on community work than getting people to give up hard to find real jobs and then start again up in the North East

Fax and Fev can sign as many aussies on Kolpak ruling as they like. So long as they have a current Eu passport, they qualify to play in this country. Fax, should they wish and finances available, can have 17 Aussies playing for them next sunday!
The fact that this is not the norm in the championship would suggest that they'd come at a premium.
