| Mixed feelings, whilst like most we want 'blood' for the huge mess up its not nice when we lose somebody who has done some good work for the club and Martin Hall has proved time after time he has the contacts to get good players to Halifax, remember who we had playing for us before he came! thing is he is not around enough to do his job anymore by the sound of it so I guess he would have gone anyway.
Yes Martin Hall is the Football Director and has 'fallen on his sword' but that is only the half of it, what did the statement say again by others'.
So what is happening with them?
Its the coach that picks the team not the football director surely and also Matt Calland must have known Ostick from being from that 'neck of the woods' so how can he let Martin Hall take all the blame, a nice contract with 2 more years to go maybe???
The problem now is that we have no football director and a coach that a large majority of fans no longer have any faith in.
If he does manage to get us to the Grand Final and win it then I will eat my words BUT if we get nowhere near the GF then he must go, thing is can we afford to wait until then???

| Just let it go Jon, move on, in a nice way of course.
Our club needs us, WE are the lifeblood of the club, let's do the right thing and support the team.
The relevant decisions have been made, it's rugby time again, drama over.

| Of course we must get back to supporting the team on Sunday, but, whilst I do not agree with everything that Fax4Life has said, I too still have some concerns about the administrative side of the club.
For example, the Board knew that Martin Hall wasn't around as much as, perhaps, he should have been to fulfil his role properly. Did they take adequate steps to make sure that, in his absence, other people were covering his duties? Evidently not. If they didn't, why not? Who should have taken this in hand?
The Board, in my opinion, seem to hold the view that with Martin Hall's resignation there is nothing further that needs to be done. But, surely, this should not be the case. Any good organisation has contingency plans in place for the eventuality that a key member of staff is unavailable for whatever reason. Fax don't appear to have had any such plan or, if they did, somebody other than Martin Hall did not do what he was supposed to do.
By closing their investigations, are the Board attempting to sweep the issue under the carpet and, in so doing, thereby covering up unresolved issues?
On-field and off-field are two separate matters. The team will get my full and total support on Sunday and I have every confidence in them to perform to the best of their collective ability, but the administrative side of the club sadly does not fill me with such confidence.

| I wouldn't worry too much about the administrative side of things now pal, surely after last week that will be the first thing the club sorts out

You only have to listen on the terraces and the majority of folk I speak to stood around me and in the SSL want rid of Calland, as do I.
How can a man who had very little in the signing or the run of events in the weeks up to last wek take blame for what has happened? Calland took the training sessions, Calland picks the team, Calland speaks to his squad . . . . I just don't see how Hall can shoulder the blame other than deflect the firing squad from Calland. The events of the last week or so have hurt our club in more ways than one and I for one think the BOD took the easy, cheap option. Then again we are touching cloth when it comes to cash flow and hovering precariously close to the wall!!
All in All (No pun!!) the decision being made was purely on a monetry basis rather than what is best for the club long term in my opinion.
Having said the above I will still be cheering the boys on tomorow, as we all do as fans of the club.

That sums up my life choices at the moment. I should be ploughing £1,000 per month into long term gilts but i can't afford it. Sometimes you have to play the cards you're dealt at the time, through no fault of your own.

Which decision was made on a monetry basis ?
As I understand things, Hally hasn't been paid anything since early last year.

EXACTLY!! - So therefore not paid a contract like Mr Calland and therefore the easiest option and scapecoat is Mr Hall surely not?? - Even if they managed to sack Calland under gross misconduct you still have to find the cash to bring somebody else in etc, etc
You can argue that Hall was Footballing Director and oversees the admin, paperwork etc BUT if he wasn't even here?? - The club already knew he was going to be absent and must have been happy that everything was in place before he went surely?? - Just think he is totally the fall guy in all of this and don't buy it at all.

Derr!
The cash in the budget freed up by not paying one salary would fund the other.

| You know what. I've been itching to say this for ages but I can't hold back any longer. I think I'll say this and then go away. It's been more and more frustrating reading this absolute tripe for the last year or so and I've had enough.
Chris, this 'majority' that exists in your head haven't a clue about how a club works and by that I mean the inside of a club.
Dressing rooms win games, not board rooms, and been an official or a director of a club is worse than playing the Sims or the hardest strategy game ever invented in that you have to juggle the needs of a thousand and one different people, without upsetting the players, coaches, staff, officials, speccies, press, RFL, sponsors, council, Sky, bank, groundsman, players wives, cleaner, fellow tenants, past players, other clubs, the safety team, local charities, local amateur clubs, local juniors and a hundred and one other people who think 'they' own the club. And all the people who then actually spend thousands of their own money and actually get up and do it get told they are doing it wrong.
Tinker with the coaching or playing staff to make it different to what goes on elsewhere (other clubs) just because you - as a speccy with no idea of what does go on in a dressing room or at training or in a contract negotiation - don't adhere to the same culture at work - or think someone's having an easier time than they should, and you risk the place becoming an unattractive place for players to come - why should they? When a Coach loses the dressing room, it's time to go. Until then, don't get involved.
All this idealistic claptrap about you 'paying their wages' by paying in is bull too. If you're not happy don't come. You have the choice. We're playing exciting stuff currently, and the club IS being run properly. if that's not enough, then you live in a different world to me.
I'll say this. Halifax are not going to be in Super League next round, or probably the round after that at least, unless we get a benefactor back. And we're wasting our time even applying. Deep down, it's probably only being done because the Club daren't not put an application in for fear of being deemed unambitious. Get real people.
And stop blaming the RFL for everything from not checking our team sheets to closing the door on promotion. In my mind they're doing right by not allowing clubs to bankrupt - and make a show of themselves - by joining the big boys for a year of losing nearly every game in Super League then coming back down. And the conspiracy paranoia about us being 'not wanted' is rubbish too. We just haven't the people who can handle the politics at the moment.
Rugby League (and I don't mean the RFL) is 'run' by a small number of very shrewd and intelligent people and unfortunately we've not got someone in that gang at the moment, and a few years ago managed to offend half of that community in a way that set us back years.
Remember them? A group of 'advisory' speccies who were so dissatisfied with the way things were that they had a go themselves? And look what a balls up they made of it!
So, how about shutting up bleating and letting the people who know what they're doing - and are doing an amazing job with the resources to hand - get on with it? Because believe me, if you spent two weeks working in the environment that is professional sport these days, your opinion would change, and you'd be cursing everyone on the list above before you know it.
