Considering the RFL have said well done to Barrow but told them to sort the ground or forget Super League super Dez has made no attemot to sort that yet as you say have spent more on players

Another Q is how much money does Dez actually have to throw about? Yes plenty of top players there but the floodlight & stadium issues, plus also they played in old kits in the NRC and didn't print new ones for the Oldham 5 just printed over old etc. In an era where off field seems to matter more than on the field are Barrow doing it the wrong way around?

He can't do everything at once. Maybe he's trying to get things right on the pitch in order to get the fans through the gates first. They haven't got a stadium. We haven't got a youth policy. They're no better or worse off than we are. At least - in both cases - fans are getting a good deal with quality on the field.

But say James on 30k a season, spend that on stadium upgrades that may give them a shot at Super League? There side is already one of the best in the division! Barrow youth system?

I don't mind the club buying new players, but I would rather we bought 2 centres, a full back and another halfback. Our squad isn't bulging by any means, its barebones at the minute with Catic playing in the centres and Luisi moving from Loose to Stand Off. 10 fringe players were released last year and with Ellis, Bauer and Allen moving on to there is the need to address the squad depth.

A lot of the comments seem to focus on DJ doing this or doing that. He is the Chairman, not owner and he requires the backing of the board and the goodwill of the fans to do anything, despite the image he may portray.

As for what he is spending "his" money on... DJ's investment in Barrow to date is approximately 5% of what SOC has provided for Widnes, it was stated on Widnes forum that SOC provided a £1.8m trust available for the club and confirmed that it had been used to satify creditors and invest in the club infrastructure and development programmes, (hence the best set up outside SL and all credit to them).

As for the ground, it needs about £1m spending on it to make it suitable for crowds in excess for 5k (SL crowds) and being able to realise the revenue those crowds offer. The floodlights alone are costing £100k, thats a lot for a couple of games a year when they are needed to keep SKY happy.

As Littlerich states, success on the pitch brings in the crowds, this brings in revenue. I am not concerned about the ground requirements just yet as I personally think SL would be a disaster for a club in our position. Who knows in 2015 we may have the infrastructure an facilities to support a bid for a franchise. Until then, good luck to Widnes, Fax and ourselves can see how they get on as the first "franchise promotion".

I've been told off someone at work who's quite in the know with the local RL scene round Cas/Wakey/Fev that Jamie Rooney only goes up to Barrow twice a week, Not bad for someone on £8k a game...

Id say way more than 1m would need to be spent to sort that ground out. 3 sides need developing bigtime, and top of this floodlighting needs to be present

Seems nearly everyone knows "someone in the know". Turns out what most of them know is "f*$% all". A little common sense would make half of that statement hard to believe, £8k a week for only 30 competitive weeks is £240k, on a £300k budget? you really believe that?. Would Fax fans appreciate it if I speculated on what you pay Stanley Gene in that manner?

Maybe he does only train twice a week, as a Barrow fan who knows a good few of the squad it isn't common knowledge round here. But then again he is a young man with some exceptional and demanding personal circumstances, so maybe Barrow have made arrangements to accomodate those circumstances, is that something Fax would have a problem with?. Amazing really how its known across Yorkshire but not in the town he plays for.

Considering top SL players will only be around 5k absolute max a week 8k is slightly unbelievable, though I bet he'll be taking home around 3k as coulda found a SL side nearer to home more than likely! Salary cap prop says 1k but that's just the way it is!
