Martyn Sadler (RL Express Journo) has posted on the rlfans.com forum ....

Presuming he's not a doppleganger, it may well be business as usual.

What a great sport. We trust these idiots to make decisions on our future and the very health of our clubs and the sport in general and they can't even make a press release without giving the interviewer the completely wrong impression, nor make a simple challenge cup draw without having to make it twice both without sound on the live feed. What a joke the sport is. And the worse is, all the people in this thread, the one on my board and elsewhere will be vilified for "overreacting". But we've been treated like a shambles.

www.therfl.co.uk/~therflc/home/n ... p?id=11628

This makes interesting reading, however it wont be long before it get somehow erased from the history of the RFL archives.

This is a total stitch up, but i would expect anything else from these clowns.

We have the best competition for a long time and this is how the RFL treat us, our sport is beginning to become a joke.

Can we, the fans, oust these incompetent governors of our sport from the offices they hold? It seems to me that, for years, we have held them in contempt for the way they ruin our game in the name of progress. Yes, some of it has been inevitable, but I have no confidence in their ability to promote, direct, and improve the value of Rugby League at any level.

Vote: NO CONFIDENCE.

Nothings changed much from this am in real terms.
Bear in mind. A spokesperson from Toulouse said they were aware of this 18 months ago!!!! So some PR/spin from RFL says it was a mistake, the counter to that is if so how come Toulouse dont think so?

You just got lurve the Sooper Dooper Expanisonist take on things dont ya
Yeah expansion for expansion sake as long as my little club is ok........

God forbid if the RFL ever really got it right. Where would typically in 10 years time would the Wakeys, Cas, Salfords, & even higher up the pecking order the Hull's, Saints & Wires really sit in a truly European league of city teams (Dublin,Madrid,Paris, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Cardiff etc etc)
& respective big backing?
Exactly no where in League 2 or 3..........
Ultimatley nearly every one of the apologists for rfl know deep down there isnt a cat in hells chance of it ever really taking on that well.
So they can pull the drawbridge on their nearest rivals geographically now & utilise the same aul same so stock answer of ahhhhhhhh Flatcapper eh?

At present we should view with reasonable deep suspicion most things coming from that place...........

Rant over

I've posted this many times on the VT. They all reply that it's pie in the sky stuff anyway and wouldn't happen BUT, if it did, they'd fully support it !!! - at the expense of their club and for the good of the game!!! Very few of them have the integrity to admit they'd be sellfish towards their own club. It's easy being supportive of these harebrained schemes when it doesn't [idirectly[/i affect your club. Pomposity is at home on the VT and of course with the boffins at the RFL HQ where there is no affinity to a club and therefore no understanding of what it means to be a true Rugby League fan.

It really is bizarre this expansionish crusade the RL is persuing. If anyone watched the Leeds v Catalans play off semi last season, it's as tho the SKY lot were willing a Leeds victory. After all, we can't have an empty Old Trafford, eh? So why the 'ell are they striving for an national / international Super League when they don't want the likes of Harlequins or Catalans to feature in the Finals? Bonkers? Yep! And we had a full Cas - v Warrington and a full Cas-v- Hull KR match on the box recently where the SKY pundits were yet again applauding the intensity between rival fans. Mirror that with the Hull v Harlequins match .. what rivalry? Let SL fall on the inevitable sword. I'm still enjoying the Championship stuff anyway icon_smile.gif

Once again the RFL lean towards expansion at the expense of traditional clubs. For all the hard work and effort put in by the likes of Widnes, Fax, Barrow, Leigh and others, they drop the hint at pulling the carpet from under all of those clubs in one go.

Promotion and relegation needs to be brought back in, if it's to be my own club (Hull KR) that swaps places then so be it.

2007 Challenge Cup Final: St Helens 30 - 8 Catalans. Attendance: 84,241. The highest crowd for any Challenge Cup Final since 1987 I do believe. I certainly do want Harlequins to make a Grand Final or a Challenge Cup final, their crowds are poor (as are Salfords) but plenty of day trippers would come out for a final if either team got there.

Quote: Martyn Sadler "I'm not sure where David Howes comes into this, or "Mark" Rylance, but below I have set out the correct version of the events that led to this story being published.

Mike Rylance, who specialises in French Rugby League for League Express, read an online report in the Midi-Olympique newspaper that had quotes from Gilles Dumas, the Toulouse coach, that appeared to suggest that his club didn't have to reach the Grand Final to qualify to make an application to Super League.
He telephoned the Toulouse Chairman, Carlos Zalduendo, who confirmed that he understood that Toulouse didn't have to reach the Grand Final to qualify to make an application for Super League.
Mike then telephoned the RFL Media Manager John Ledger, who promised to get back to him to confirm or otherwise the veracity of this particular interpretation.
John then got back in touch with Mike, and confirmed that Carlos' view was the correct interpretation. That was after John spoke to a senior official at the RFL who confirmed that version of the truth.
John and Mike have both confirmed this version of events with me, but John is not prepared to name the RFL official who confirmed that Toulouse would not have to reach the Grand Final.
Subsequently, on Monday, John issued a press release on behalf of the RFL saying quite bluntly that Toulouse do have to reach the Grand Final "contrary to some reports".
The press release did not make it clear that those "reports" had actually originated from the RFL itself, and it made it look as though League Express had simply printed a story that wasn't true.
Clearly I was less than happy with the RFL not acknowledging that it had given our reporter the wrong information, although John subsequently apologised to me, as I said earlier in this thread.'"
