Quote: Jonnie.. "This age thing makes me laugh, each person is differant there have been lots of examples of players in many sports carring on whilst they bodies felt up to it, or drop down a level to prolonge carears others continue at the very top

a few examples

Kerion Cunningham - Rugby Leauge - 33
Keith Senior - Rugby League - 34
Steve Price NRL - 35 Rugby Leauge
Steve Menzies-36 Rugby Leauge
Teddy Sherringham - Football -39 and playing in the prem league
David James - Football made his Debut at 39
Sir Steve Redgrave - Rowing 40 and winning gold medals
Peter Shilton - Footbal - world cup at 40
Roger Millar - Football Cameron world cup player at 42!

Philip Rabinowitz -Sprinter aged 100

You need a lot more fitness to play Rugby League than a soccer especially a Goalkeeper. And having one or two old heads is OK-but we have too many. We have Larder, Holroyd, Gene, Wrench, Aizue, Watene, Tamghart who are 30 or older and many are forwards where the most work is done.
Steve Price has done nothing for 2 years and do not think he has played this year due to injury. Cunningham also has missed a lot of games over the past 2 years and is not anywhere near as good as he was 5 years ago. Senior is not as good as he was neither.Menzies is an exception.

Stanley Matthews played his final game for Stoke City on February 6, 1965. He was 50 years and 4 days old.

Philip Rabinowitz -Sprinter aged 100

Ignoring the footballers because, well, there puffs;
Kerion Cunningham - Rugby Leauge - 33 - Played 30 minute spells for the last three years.
Keith Senior - Rugby League - 34 - Plays , not in the pack.
Steve Price NRL - 35 Rugby Leauge - Played sparcely for the last few years.
Steve Menzies-36 Rugby Leauge - Always was a freakish athelete.

Quote: chris_smith "Exactly!! - Where is MArk Roberts? He must have had his legs amputated as he hasn't been seen or heard from in 2 months+. Surely he could cover? Why haven't we recalled Danny Flemming if injuries are that bad? I always get the feeling Calland is full of excuses.'"

Danny Fleming has been back from Rochdale for nearly 5 weeks now. Matt Calland cant even acknowlegde him so hes not gonna play him. !!!!

Nothing surprises me anymore about Calland. I hear and have heard all sorts of stories, Some exaggerated and some close to the mark I am sure. How he can keep a straight face though when claiming to be down to the last few members of the squad when we have Roberts and perhaps Fleming out of favour now?? Totally bemused the guy is a liability in more ways than one.

Couldnt agree more. There are young lads who HAVENT been given the chance to "have a go". Lads who WANT to play and CAN play but just get knocked down and shoved in a corner because there faces dont fit.. Halifax are not intrested in the youth players and helping them to progress through the ranks because it would be too much hassle.

Just been reading the Mr Fax blog and he says the followingA bad performance. This season has been full of Bad performances on and off the field including questionable signings.

Before we are criticised again by the blog for not being loyal supporters, surely a loyal supporter would want the best for the club, which Calland is proving more and more as the season goes on that he isn't anymore. After a week off Fax should've come back and been on the top of there game.

Mr Fax then goes on to say
"If the FA were to sack Fabio it will cost them some £12 million, if we were to consider doing the same with our coach whilst it would obviously not cost us that amount, it would be a similar situation." But it would surely be a decision that would pay off with wins over the easier teams in future Northern Rail Cups, further runs in the Challenge Cup without shock halts and wins in Grand Finals...leading to bigger crowds surely.

They cant see the wood for the trees. A better Future? most people and half of the players realise that a better future for HXRLFC will be without Matt Calland at the helm. Its just that it may be too late before the people that can do anything about it realise it too.

Do you think they're sat there thinking "God, what a great coach we've got"? Or do you think our club has no financial constraints whatsoever? I suppose they could sack him - pay him off anyway and remain coach-less. Would it make a difference?
