You could be on to something there Tony.
I seem to recall 'Plastic Man' being a sponsor of the club. Coincidence?

I live 2.5 miles away in Dalton. I have followed Barrow rugby since I was a wee nipper and regularly invaded the pitch in the good old days for players tie ups. Never got to as many games as I would have liked as I got older (about half the home games a season) but in the last 4 or 5 years I have attended more and more. I have played for Barrow at Academy level for 2 seasons also. Admittedly I followed Wigan for a while and got to most of their home games (not in the glory days I might add) but decided before last season started and all the signings came in, I would spend my money supporting my local team. Turned out to be a great decision. As for only watching winning teams, Wigan won sod all whilst I travelled to watch them and as I said I have been more of a steady(ish) supporter of Barrow for 25 years. I have watched Barrow loose to Chorley, loose by 60 -70 points and I have seen Barrow win a Grand Final. Some would say that isn't glory hunting. Clubs like Barrow & Halifax need to bring back the lost supporters and should welcome them with open arms if we want Super League. How many Bradford & Leeds shirts do you spot locally on the kids and adults ? I would guess plenty.
I have been posting on Rugbyleague.org for ages by the way and have been on here since Jan 2006.

How harsh? When he's being moved around every match, from 6 to 9 to 7 back to 6 then to 9, sometimes in the space of one game, it must be hard to get some form in, then he's getting stick from his own set of fans, as captain!
I still maintain that if he plays at 9, coming off the bench, Penky is our best player and one of the best in our division, he can change games in the blink of an eye. Hopefully the signing of Branighan will mean we will never see Penky at 6 again and see him in his best position of 9.

| Quote: Tony Fax "And I've said this before and I'll say it again. Barrow, as well as Whitehaven and Workington, will find it very difficult to entice decent players up that neck of the woods. It'll mean having to up sticks or driving a 300 mile round journey. And joking apart, would YOU want to live in Barrow? Even the thought makes me feel queezy!'"
Hasn't put off Bauer, Luisi, Rooney, Noone, Coyle, Ballard, Allen, Roberts, Young, Catic, Ostler etc from coming here. We haven't done so bad this season seeing as no-one wants to come here
True, it's much harder and more expensive getting players here, but they do come if the set-up is right and they're enjoying their game.

Totally agree. Rotating him & Gleese at the start of the season was one of the big reasons we started so well.

I agree also. Hopefully Matt Calland will have learnt some vital lessons during 2009. Firstly, to put players where they are most effective and, secondly, to engage brain before opening mouth.
