| Hallas scored a few belters aswell, Ricki Sheriffe ran in some crackers too, so in answer to the question about how good was it, I'd rather say, it was as good as some of the classics we have seen over the years, what he needs to do now is do it with the consistency of Bentley, Preston and Austin who may not have been in our most successful side but for me were the most exciting back line in the league whilst with us.
I even remember the likes of Offiah and Robinson having torrid times against them. Goes back to the old Johnny Freeman debate, in that were it not for Billy Boston being about at the same time, his stature in the game would be even higher. We have a good traditional of wingers at Fax though.

| Dave Bouveng (sp.) against Leeds. Stepped 2 or 3 then ran the length of the field straight up the middle.

| We have seen some good ones. John Bentley against Warrington. A true example of speed power and strength. Warren Wilsons try against Wakefield in the last couple of minutes to win the game and he started to run down the dead in goal line with everyone shouting to put the ball down. I like long range trys dont get me wrong but my favorite has to be Paul Rowleys try against Quinns at the Shay. One of the best trys you will ever see from a hooker and Stevo voted it as try of the season. He started the day a hero rescuing a little girl from a river and finished it a hero scoring that try. Top guy and best hooker i have seen play for Fax.

| Darryl Cardiss against the Rhinos at the Shay in i think 2000? Absolutely epic night down the shay and Darryl's try was one of the best individual efforts i've seen. The Shay was absolutely rocking that night!

For me there was no better winger for Fax than Johnny Freeman , as a child we kids could never afford to pay to get in at Thrum Hall so we would wait for the gates to open after half time. For those who had paid, just to watch him was worth the admittance money on it`s own,he rang me a couple of days after the Grand Final extatic over Robs try.
But where he differed from Rob or Rickie was he never moved from the 3ft strip on the wing , he never came into the field of play. He once told me the coach and him had rows about it as he was forever telling him to come inside but Johnny refused to do it.His tussles with the St Helens player Vollenhoven were legendary they disliked each other intensley and always ended up fighting but the game plan then was to let them get on with it as a diversion and to score down the other wing.Funnily enough I met Vol-au-vont at the rugby museum on Saturday he was with Sullivan I reminded him of Johnny and he said " well we did make it up after we finished playing"

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. I thought he'd turn up and have a right stinker. Completely the opposite, it was possibly one his best if not [ithe[/i best performance for us.

Spent a couple of hours in Johnnys company at the Ivy House the other week, along with Cov and Pete Emmett. Asked him a few questions about his playing days and he said his toughest wing opponent was obviously his old school mate and neighbour Billy Boston. I also asked him who was the the most difficult player he played against in terms of on field intelligence with the ball and he said easily Alex Murphy and as for the toughest of all he mentioned a few but the only one i had heard of was Vince Karalius.
Superb character Johnny Freeman and it was a pleasure to see him looking so well at 76. Hopefully we will have many years of memories in which to discuss Rob Worrincy too.

| I don't disagree with any of the previous posts on this topic, but can I add the Jim Naylor try at the Shay to beat Leeds. Anyone remember that one bringing the house down ?
And Rolo got a cracker against London I think it was after being a life-saver earlier in the day, both tv games.

I remember it well and I have it on tape. It is so unexpected that every single Leeds player is still going forward as he is going the other way with the ball..... Great.

| Jim Naylor...
...just tipped the ball with his fingertips to intercept and juggled it a little before legging it upfield to score.
Cracking try!
As was Rowley's against London, and Cardiss' against Leeds, (Harris got Hobson's finger in his eye by accident and had to be taken off, and they were trying like mad to get Rivett on while they took him off).

| Halpenny's try against Bradford at Valley Parade for mine. Simply embarrassed the best team in the competition. I also remember a Preston special at Don Valley which won the Boots N All Try of the Season award in 1994. Bentley scored a cracker against London in 96 at The Valley where he ran the length of the pitch then lent against the posts waiting for the ref (Russell Smith I think) to catch up to award the try
I can't remember a better try in a final than Worrincy's since Offiah in 94.
