Quote: sir HaRoLd FaCey "Ambler was absolutely superb tonight. He has been consistent all season but had a stormer tonight. You can see him rallying the team all the time and plays with his heart on his sleeve. Worrincy looked dangerous everytime he had the ball and the last mention goes to fieldhouse, he is the safest full back we have had in a long time, he takes everything that is thrown at him and i dont think ive seen him drop anything this season, always likely to break through the line aswell. I thought swinton were very unlucky to lose and played really well, i was impressed with both centres, the fb and watson had a good game. Penky will be a bad miss but funnily enough i think it will bring the best out of handforth as he will be the main man calling the plays. He did pretty well tonight after a shaky first 20 mins.'"

I have to say i'm not to sure how you thought Worrincy looked dangerous every time he had the ball, most of the time he ran sidewards, i'll give you his due he was difficult to get hold of but i can't recall him breking the Swinton line and putting us in any danger. Prior to the game i was looking forward to seeing this guy show us the speed clearly he has.

Quote: jeffvickers "From the article.
"RFL Director of European Development Niel Wood". I'm assuming the article has mispelt Nigels name..
I assume this position is separate from his role at the RFL and commands a separate salary.

Nigel Wood, useless oaf. This comp is guaranteed to be another Nigel Wood RFL fail. But even though the RFL will suffer huge losses, the fat controller will still take this separate salary as Director of European development.
Hes enjoying his ride on the RFL gravy train at the expense of the real good of the game.

Wheres the media coverage?
Wheres the press releases?
Great work!'"

There is a niel wood at the RFL as well as the fat controller, and niel is the one in charge of development ,met him a few times

Quote: jeffvickers "Fringe players? We've none left. We were down to the bare bones tonight & Barlow & Reittie will be banned next week. + with all the money the RFL have wasted on this farce of a Euro Cup, I think they'll insist we have to put out more or less full strength sides. + if I was a player, I'd fancy a nice playing & boozing holiday to the South of France.

Also, although I expect, even though a handful of fans are travelling down, I don't think they'd appreciate paying £500 PP to travel to watch the U23's get thrashed.'"

Barlow has already been given a verdict of "no charge, sinbin sufficient".

It looks like my friend, you dont understand RL. He got through a ton of work and instead of your players having to make a simple one up one down tackle you end up with sometimes 4 or 5 players having to exert effort trying to tackle him. Ok he didnt do the spectacular but i thought he had his best game of the season for us.

Strange game but good game. Even at the end i thought we would win but it was nail biting stuff but all crdit to Swinton their defence was very good for most of the night.

That said at times we were very poor and our execution was quite franky crap. But some times you have to dig in a claw out a win, thats what makes the good sides great. God knows how many injuries we picked up in that game though. Robinson struggled the whole game but managed to stick it out, Penky could be done for a while the way he pulled up, Ambler looked to be stretching off his thigh when he was subbed but obviously was ok to continue. We are doing it tough and i would rest a lot of players for the pointless game in France.

Strange game as well as i thought a few of our players had their best games this year for us. Handforth was obviously superb, as we know im not a fan of Bowman and after his first stint i was cursing but credit to the lad when he got his next chance he had a really solid game especially his tackling in the middle which was excellent. Same goes for Haley, not a huge fan but he didnt look like he had missed a year of footy and was excellent. I thought Worrincy had his best game so far for us getting through a ton of work. Our left side defence obviously needs some work because we were slack there numerous times. Did Fieldhouse make his first error of the season? Looked like he may have left the ball for them to get back in front but other than that very good again. For me he has potential to be better than Shad. Penky was obviously very good again, by far the best hooker at this level AINEC. I thought our pack as a whole was very good and we made a lot of yards through out the game but again things just wernt coming off for us but that happens.

Overall we should be delighted by the win.

Hey up Marshy. Full respect to Swinton mate, can only go on the radio commentary as I couldn't make the game.
It was unbiased which said as a team the Lions were far better organised and looked the better side.
Also to back that up Fax were never in the lead untill the last play of the game with a much higher penalty count in our favour.
Even Karl Harrison said in the post match interview that he had appolojised to SM for stealing it at the end.

Rob does run sideways on a regular basis, one reason is as a lad he had a sand pit to play in and just grew up as a young tallented crab and it is hard for him to break the habit.
Even today when he's on the team bus they make him sit next to the window with one of the big guys on the inside so he doesn't slide sideways off his seat. icon_lol.gif

Seriously though he is looking for a gap to try and break the line and with the Swinton defence doing it's job just didn't happen, when it does then he's off and difficult to catch.
It would be interesting to see him in a foot race with Kev Penny that's for sure.

Can't quite understand how noting a player who consistantly ran sidewards denotes me not understanding RL as I was always coached to make yards forward but i will bow to you extreme knnowledge. Fact is even one of your own faxcar accepts he does. I also accept that Worrincy does look to have ligtening speed and had Kev Penny gathered the grubber kick he knocked on we would have seen that challenge between the two

Its quite simple really. Your a big forward and you have this lightning quick, huge bloke running at you, you try and tackle him and he escapes your clutches, he then steps and runs at you again but yet again you cant take him down, he sets off the other way and steps again, finally you manage to keep hold of him but your tired and hes trying to get up and play the ball quickly and you know you have to win the tackle but your tank is running on empty and then you hear the whistle..........

Marshy.
Coaching will be involved if you think about it.
In additon to what GFB has said there is.
With him playing on the right he will have been coached not to try for the outside on the first tackle when running the ball away from his own line so there is no chance of him being put into touch.

I bet without seeing it he would have stepped of his right foot and come inside several times and then done a few on the spot jinks around like I say to intially avoid the touchline and as said before to look for a gap for himself OR to gain central field position to give both short and long side options from the resulting play the ball.

His style of play and personel build will play a factor as well, a good coach will try and have a game plan that suits the player involved.

They in turn if you have a good squad will have been selected depending on who you are playing against, where you are playing and what the conditions are like.

A quick contrasting example would be wingers such as Wayne Rettie who will often take the more direct straight on approach because it gets best results for him and the team maybe by breaking a tackle or winning a quick play the ball against a retreating defence.

(I know I am asking for it mentioning a certain wingers more direct approach so shoot if you like icon_lol.gif )

Goin back to "The Warrior", trust me there are plenty of Fax fans shouting "Will you run straight" when Rob gets the ball at most games.

I accept that jinking runs and side steps make him difficult to tackle and can create tiredness but there has to be an end product. Yet all to often last night your team simply stayed in thd
E same area of the pitch with no line advantage, he may in the past have created opening but fact is last night he didn't. I never said he was a bad player just for me with his stature and side step a more direct run woild have been good to see.

He does run straight sometimes but often knocks on either straight away or when regaining his feet and fumbling around putting the ball down to play it.
Like everyone he does have weaknesses in his game but I 'm glad he is wearing the Blue and White of Fax. icon_thumb.gif

That end product comes from building the platform and Worrincy takes away a lot of the work from the forwards to help build that platform. He gets a quick play the ball and we have one of the best players in the league there to take advantage in Penky.

As a Leyther , i was very much an impartial fan at the LSV last night ,the game itself was very entertaining, and no doubt a draw would have been a fair result ,Swinton for me are the nearley men , i have seen themplay 4 times this season , every game the same , Swinton playing very well but running out of steam in the final quarter of the game , i thought Watto at 7 had a very good game.
Charlie had a good craic and banter with the Fax fans , you are great fans eusa_clap.gif eusa_clap.gif eusa_clap.gif my owd mate Mick (Bentleyman)was very very happy ,hope you goy home safe Mick?Iwas disappointed not to see Littlerich icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif but was told he doesnt attend that many games a Keyboard Warrior no doubt icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif still the Fax fans i met were great icon_lol.gif , would love to see you at Blackpool, again a fair result would have been a draw .
