Your not thinking this through, again back to Luke, a product of our Acadamy, who only got to play for us after Salford, Leeds and Harlequins.
We don't have an Acadamy side just an under 20's.
Local clubs have talent snapped up by Super League clubs because there is no way we can compete with those clubs.
Calderdale College have a good set up for youth but again promising lads are poached by other clubs.

Cue Marrillionman, he has a far better understanding of this subject than I and could probably add a few salient points.

I have nothing to add really other than the game is going down the pan & lads are been taken on by pro clubs at the age of 12 or 13, time & money invested in them at various levels of pro/semi pro/pay as you play terms & chucked on the scrapheap as young as 19 years old.

RL at professional level is it's own worst enemy. My own lad has been released at Halifax & i have no qualms with that, it happened to me just 30 years ago by the same club, he'll get over it just as i did. I have since been approached by TWO of our district's RU clubs showing an interest in him to go along & train with them with a view to playing. Whether posters on here agree with me or not, whether they like it or not, those RU boys seem to know how to get hold of league lads, coach's, players, funding, sponsorship etc etc that's why their game is in a better state than ours.

Correct Colin, Rugby Union realised after 100 years that they could actually benefit from league. Been playing the odd game myself this season and got to say its good to be in decent facilities almost every week, certainly more appealing than getting changed in schools or in a portakabin or in a pub cellar, trekking a mile to the pitch then driving to a pub afterwards. Rugby Union looks after its own and shares the wealth, league on the other hand is just take take take. For example every month the pennine league pull in a fair few quid in fines..... where does the money go?

I didnt think it required much more of an answer to be honest. Name a professional team sport that does not see players of a very young age signed to contracts when they show a lot of potential only for them to be dis-guarded equally as quick when they fail to fulfill that potential.

It is just the nature of sport.

Would never have Rettie on the wing in my starting 17.... I just don't get what anyone sees in him.
