That was a good effort from the lads they really dug in, it was an arm wrestle first half and I was worried we had not taken advantage of having the best of things and not getting over the whitewash we did not look like scoring tbh.
But second half we stuck at it forced them into making errors with a few of our own but picked them off and dsepite giving them a soft try (Ryan was a bit unlucky though) we went down the other end and scored a great try from a terrific break by Ben Heaton then topped it off with a good solo try by Scott Murrell.
Sorry I was not there watched it in the Fleece.

FAILURE ISN'T ABOUT FALLING DOWN, FAILURE IS STAYING DOWN..........:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3245.jpg

Great feeling for me to actually believe all week that we can go into a game, BIG game & i expected us to win it. Those who chat RL with me or part of my "text chat" will know what i'm talking about. I said a short & tight passing game with a long, low kicking game in those conditions would be our best chance. I still heard Fax fans shouting/cheering for us to attempt ridiculous passes when there was no need. We controlled large portions of that game tonight either territorrilly, possession-wise or on the scoreboard.
I did wish we'd taken the "2" early on, but we never looked threatened at all. We forced loads of errors, stayed disciplined with & without the ball & fully deserved to win. Without a video ref, we'd probably have won by a larger margin too.
Great confidence & form booster.

Thought the video ref was completely out of his depth and sounded inept, errr and ohhh as first comments on rferrals didn't come across well -should have had bloemy on instead, always soundedd good commentating

I have to say as a supporter who has heaped plenty of criticism on the club over recent weeks that I am eating a large chunk of humble pie today...!! Great feeling it is too!! Superb controller performance and fingers crossed we can keep the momentum into the next round all the way to the GF!! I'll still say it as I see it and thrown my Wobblies now and then but well done lads for such a great performance.... I know this is old news but I think just over 700 for a game of this stature shows the apathy across the game right now. The ridiculous new format in the play offs almost made this a pointless game. Glad Fax saw the opportunity and grasped it tho!!

Great result that was built on solid defence and controling the game for long periods.
Territorially and chance wise we had enough to win most games.

Credit to eagles who kept us out on mutiple sets close to their line and the game was anyones untill the last few minutes.

What has changed.

Well for one thing Line speed picked up against Workington and carried on tonight, wer'e not doing the 2 steps forward and little skip anymore.

It's lighting fast as a line and 3 or 4 tacklers getting really stuck in putting the man down, a little more split between upper body and legs will have it off to perfection.

The oppostion halfs instead of having time to make a cup of tea and pick their runners out have barely time to get a pass or the kick away and often can't and have to pass wide to the second kicker who's not as effective.

Our bench rotation that was so effective early on in the season is now back to full strength in depth and keeps the pressure on.

Chance to get a few bumps and bruises healed up some good training sessions and back to it in couple of weeks.

Well played boys but message is Keep your feet firmly on the ground we have won nowt yet.

Brilliant performance from the whole team. I said at the beginning of the week we would go there and win and to be fair we dominated the game. Our pack were mammoth and there were some big, big performances by individuals which stopped Sheffield playing. Line speed was as good as Ive seen it this season and we didnt let them breathe.

I just watched part of the game his morning and actually enjoyed listening to the video ref. I want the ref commentating on close decisions, to me as a viewer we like to know when its not an easy decision.

Probably a little bit of sadness as well as a few of our players, barring injury, have now probably played their last games for Fax.

Featherstone Rovers - Co-Operative Championship League Leaders and Champions 2011:

Thought it was a pretty boring game to be honest.

Sheffield looked clueless in attack and 'fax wern't much better.

Didn't see anything that we need to worry about from either team.

You are right. The only thing that can beat Fev is themselves and their ability to choke in the big games.

Much better than us with the ball - the better team won on the night.

You only need to play well in September.

I know were you are coming from Homer, but watching the game at the DVS last night help me appreciate the job Fax did on Sheffield they did close them down all across the field and don't allow the Eagles backs any space. Yere got one run all game. Now the conditions for me helped Fax - on a dry pitch I think Sheffield would have given a better account of themselves.

Should Fev be worried about either side? On last night's performance -for me no we shouldn't, as I said to MM last night I don't see why we shouldn't get to the grand final and win it, apart from us being too complacent.

But credit Fax last night they played very well in what for me was always going to be a scrappy game. Hope we can win in as dominant fashion against Leigh, but suspect we are in for a hard game.

Good luck to Fax in your next play-off game, which I believe can't be against Fev would be good to play you in the Final.

I slightly disagree re the playing surface/conditions. I watched the game back today on tv & some of our dis-allowed tries may well have been more clinically finished on a drier track. Who would have ever backed tiger to do a defensive job on Yere ? But he did just that.

fair play - I haven't seen the game back yet. What a job Fax did defensively all night on all the Sheffield backs, QLT included. Was first class.

What I meant by the conditions, is that on a dry pitch Sheffield's normal game could have come more to the fore.

But it's a game of opinions, which makes it such a great sport to watch!

MM If we are still in the running for the Grand Final, I'll have a look at making one in at the Shay in 2 weeks time, would be good to meet up again.
