The 'Glory Years' seems to amount to a one off win against United. Think the plural 'years' was a bit optimistic, in fact, even a full year would be optimistic.
Still, they did have their day, oh, except that the Courier headlines that day read that '1,000 fans on Rampage Mar Famous Victory'.
They couldn't even manage 1 day of genuine glory without the daft fans ruining it for them then.

| Would like to see Gleeson pack down at loose on our scrums so that we can get quicker ball away from the base of the scrum. Saints do this with Roby and Cunningham. Think we are missing a trick here with the rule nowadays been that the ball is out when at the loosee feet. Quicker ball from scrum for likes of Goddard Shad Rob.

good point.
Would be effective attacking the narrow side quickly and creating an immediate overlap with black and Shad linking with the winger.

| I'd just love to see Gleeson out there more, we always looked a better and far more controlled team when he plays.
And Penky has always been at his best when he runs from dummy half at tiring defenders.
I do think we ought to start with our strongest side more and get control of games early.
p.s. Shad should be in the Fax Hall of fame, what a legend.

I agree - Gleeson should start and then bring Penky on - but it seems to be working OK as it stands.
And as for Shad - dont know bout the Hall of Fame, but he is on fire at the moment. Best full back in the league by a wide margin.

i think calland has it right at the moment starting with penky then just as the other side think they got him under control bring on gleeson. not broke so why try fix it.
think a few underestimate how good callands tactics are at the moment with his team selections and tactics.
should give him more credit.

Glad you didnt say a country .........
If Shad plays for us in SL (pipe dream maybe ) I think he should be recognised for his consistent and playing anywhere for the good of the team attitude.

two very good substitutions.'"
Totally agree, only one blot on his copybook as coach was keeping Wrenchy on, I thought he was gone in the last 10 minutes and should have been replaced, gave away a silly penalty for 'lying on' which was more standing on.
Penky is an impact player and Gleeson could not have kept that effort going for the full 80 minutes he was awesome so well done to Matt for that tactical switch.

| bid worried myself about wrenchy playing seond row. not the most mobile and its a lot asking him and larder to keep doing 80 minutes. But its worked so far and his defensive efforts have been fantastic - but they always are!

| I think that Wrenchy is having the time of his life at the moment. He looks to be loving every minute of it, and always puts the hard graft in, although few seem to notice him. Best marker defender we have.

agree, but when we play lesser teams can use bannister or nash then to attack more.

| Pretty sure that Matt has no intention of playing Wrenchy and Larder for that long every week. Against Widnes that extra effort is needed in defence and he clearly wanted the continued intensity of these two plus Stan. I agree that they were getting tired but these players do it the hard way week in week out. Wrenchy in the 2nd row was a short term master stroke against Batley and Widnes IMO and playing him there adds to our options for the season and to be fair thats what he is really.

| I agree with the good comments made about Wrenchy, I feel he is our most consistent forward apart from any of our hookers this season, he's awesome and looks to give some size away to some of our oppositions forwards, but that doesn't deter his efforts.
The pack selections won us thursday's game along with the bench selections against what I consider a very young & inexperienced Widnes bench.
Our back three of Dids, Wrenchy & Stan worked overtime and were all effective and what a time to select Bowman on the bench, Pats gets injured and Bowman makes a quality play to create a try under pressure when filling in out wide, fantastic choice. Many times we've loaded up the bench with just forwards and I reckon tomorrow's game had a bearing on thursday's selections. There'll be some lads getting a run tomorrow with the intention of winning back their starting shirts, credit to our coaching team again. Tomorrow's game and result is equally as important as thursday's in the context of the remainder of the season.

| Just watched the game again and I have to stick up for Wrenchy, as i do so often, those that play the game know that in your team you need people from time to time who wont neccessarily make breaks or killer passes, but they back up, they tackle, they offer themselves up every set, they run themselves into the ground and most importantly they play for the team, Dave Wrench ran himself into the ground and was still our most enthused defender even until the end. Wrenchy, Larder, Frank, Stanley and Mikale while not the youngest or most mobile in some cases know that their careers and closing out and im sure each one of them will give everything in the cause, they might not be with us for years to come, but those kind of mentalities arent easy to replace. Lets go all out this year and win something and look at some young bucks for next year, our other players, Black, Gleeson, Shad, Penk, Beswick,Pato, God, Haley and co have played the game long enough and will hopefully make good senior pros..
p.s Cherryholme, Roberts and Bannister will do well to study Wrenchy play, he makes the best of the tools god gave him, I salute you Wrenchy.
