i didnt expect to see that but he put his money in got super league players and he expects more than is being given at the minute.

it remains to be seen how things go with the new coach.

Clarke should have carried on to the end of the season and then Barrow thought properly about who to bring in. Strange to change things now.
Steve Deakin is a decent coach -but hardly one who is very successful-look at his time at Fax, Oldham and Hudds!
Also Des comes across as a impatient spoilt little kid who thinks his money can buy him whatever he wants. Maybe he is maybe not but certainly I as a player would not want to go there as he seems to demand more than what is realistic. This year Barrow possibly should have aimed for a Play Off Spot then build from that. I wish Barrow well but just the way the Chairman comes across i think they will not be as successful as certain people there want or expect.

I think Deakin may have been exagerrating on his CV if he was "in charge" at Halifax, Huddersfield and Rochdale.

He was number 2 to Steve Simms at Fax and to Tony Smith at Huddersfield.

He was coach at Spotland but walked out before the season started to go to Keighley!! - something that saw Martin Hall get the job.....

Typical reaction of the successful businessman when things are happening that he ' thinks ' should not be

Normal business responce to a problem

But this is sport , not ' normal ' business

This is why our sport drastically underachieves

The people running both the sport and the clubs dont understand what sport is all about

am shocked and suprised that a club on the up have made such a daft desision..

why do you sack ya head coach when...youv been in a final already and are in the enviable position of challenging in the league aswell?!

a very strange one,

i think des should get a new toy!!!

A coach lives & dies by his results and regardless of past acheivements our results recently have been very poor. The wins we have scraped together have been poor - Dewsbury should have been in the Semi Finals of the NRC, Fev should have been in the final because they worked out our plan A and got in our faces. We had no plan B and never have - That is a coaching error.

The NRC final was a bonus that quite frankly we didn't deserve after those 2 games. Dave Clarke has done very well and has punched above his weight. He is a great servent of the club but sentiments cannot get in the way im afraid. It excites me to know we have a Chairman who demands success despite sometimes appearing to have megalomaniac tendancies. 2nd is nothing in sport !!!

Looked to me as if he got the best out of some very average players. With the team you have there is no way that you should be second in the league. To me that is good coaching to your chairman thats failure. icon_lol.gif

First off, Clarky wasn't sacked by the Chairman. If he was do you really think he'd stay at the club as assistant. I believe Clarkly realised after the final that he'd done as much as he could with the team hence the stepping down.

While we have been getting some good results our performances have been getting worse (note: worse not better!!). Nixon is our top try scorer yet in the past 6 games he'll be lucky if he's had 6 passes. That's where Clarky came unstuck, once teams had sussed us out he had no ideas on how the change the way we played to get the ball out wide.

Deakin might not be the most exciting coach but hopefully can bring some fresh ideas to help us maintain a place in the play-offs.

Des is a larger than life character and folk outside of Barrow take his comments to literally. I'm sure the players let most of his comments go over their heads, just like most of the supporters do while at the same time admiring him for what he's trying to achieve at Barrow.

See you all in the Grand Final icon_wink.gif icon_wink.gif
