Its not his only job.. 3 bad days at the office? lets start with a dam sight more bad days at the office than good ones since toulouse last summer. And yes resigning with dignity always wins for me. You make it sound like hes on the bread line

| Things haven't been right for a long time. The team we have, we should be monstering through this league.
Someone give me a nudge when Dave Woods is incharge.

It's up to the employer to sack him not himself and he might budget his life on his wage from Halifax so why would he walk away from it, makes no sense.

| didn't expect to win tonite, but the manner of defeat is what matters. Players just switching off, like patterson taking dummy on last tackle for their 2nd try. And no defence at all in our own 20. We concede nearly every time a team gets there. We have not recovered since last May and still seem demoralised and deviod of ideas. Key players missing, yes, but we should still be better than this.
But there has to be collective resposnibility. Players with 2 year contracts taking the money, but no longer performing. No competition for places or enough younger players out to prove a point. Poor close season signings, leaving us a with a relatively small squad and too old. I dont accept this "we have best squad in league". If they were all 5 years younger maybe, but some have been given one season too many and we've added a few more oldies to keep them company.
Our pack is again too lighweight, has little impact and was our problem last year when other teams started to hit their straps.

| Quote: Haighy "He said in his interview we will turn things round because the players in the changing room are too good for this to happen. Its obvious to everyone that he isn't the man for the job. The players don't look like they are playing for the coach, just for themselves. Calland doesn't seem to have the motivational capabilities to inspire the players, proof in the pudding was tonight's second half.
How long is he going to be given to repeat "it will come" "we will turn it around". He had a chance against Leigh and bombed it, he had a chance tonight and bombed it. What happens if we lose to Toulouse? Will he repeat it once again knowing he is safe in his job? The gate against Keighley in front of the SKY cameras will be embarrasing.
Something NEEDS to be done, NOW.'"
I heard the interview, worryingly he didn't interpret the problem and the solution was "work harder".
He needed a performace tonight, he got it for part of the 1st half but thats all. He needs a performace and result in next 2 home games without these I think there will be a change.

| writing was on the wall in first half. Going down hill, didn't make a break, bust a tackle or get close to scoring. Fev only team to look like scoring and missed a few chances. The slope kept us in it but even then they made more yards thought their pack up the hill.

Agreed, but the key to the previous post is that it comes down to dignity and decency.
Also, if the players know he is only on the job because we can't afford to sack him, how are they gonna respond to anything he says?
The contract extension he was given now doesnt seem like such a good thing. We did it to stop him being poached by a SL team (Bulls cos McNamamamamara was on brink of the sack) and that now looks so hilarious. I very much doubt he will at a higher level or at a better club than Fax when he finally goes.

| Although I went to the game expecting a loss I didn't expect to see a side who are going backwards EVERY week. Anyone who went to the game will find it difficult to defend Calland after that surely? The performances are getting worse and worse. Action needs taking now before the season is well and truly over. Clueless in every department.

Careful, you should know that your not allowed to say anything negative on here.
I was there also, and it is impossible to defend that performance. In interview on Radio Leeds Calland then said, "These players are too good not to respond to that and will perform sooner rather than later".
We looked lost everywhere tonight. I know we have some injuries but when we have forwards on the squad that are not injured, why are we playing a centre in the back row? Why can't Beswick play a full 80 minutes? Although to be fair, he can't play at all rigth now so thats no loss

| I know, I've been accused of all and sundry in the last week or so for speaking my mind re Calland. How can he say the team will perform sooner or later? - If he was any decent sort of coach at all any one of the last 3 defeats should have been motivation enough!!!! - It is plainly obvious that th eplayers do not want to play for him and I fear the games coming up. The reason I am so passionate is that this year should realisitically have been the year we kicked on from last year and a superb opportunity for the club to knock loudly on the SL door if our bid is to be taken seriously. With rumours of player unrest and more worryingly players openly expressing their desire to leave this season COULD set us back on and off the field badly as the drifting support that started to come back walking away again.

| If we lose against Toulouse on Monday, the turnout from us speccies on Thursday for the Sky fixture v Keighley will be embarrassing. The club are sending out free upgrades to Skircoat Stand ticket holders for the East stand as Sky will be building a studio and camera gantry in the Skircoat. I can see the East stand being very empty as if we lose YET AGAIN most people will decide to stay at home and watch it on the box.
Someone on the board needs to interview each player and member of the coaching staff individually to find out what the root cause of the problem at Halifax RLFC is, and then act on it. Whether anyone is honest is another thing.

| I remember Sheffield starting last season in an horrendous fashion, they even lost against Donny! But by the end Mark Aston and his Sheffield team were hailed as the best thing since sliced bread. Now they've started this season slow again ..... "they can't even beat Keighley" ... and all of a sudden they're naff again! Oh the joy of being a sports fan eh?

Sheffield's season was built on competing in every game for every minute. As we know they did well enough to earn bonus points on many occasions and finished well up in the league standings. When we lose, the bonus point isn't so much of an issue ! Attitude and desire get you the bonus point.

sheffield didnt win anything either... good or bad starts.. Widnes and barrow did, both had coaching issues they tried to resolve to some degree, while O'Connor and Des went about it differently, they acted, they knew things needed freshening up. Mark Aston does a great job with his resources, a good honest side. I think we need to be concerned with how do we freshen things up, perhaps the Bods should take the wags to the new shopping centre in Warrington or take the guys the Pleasure Beach. looks very likely to me thats the only days out on the horizon. It appears old buddy Matt is gonna be around for a while, unfortunately.

| one good thing about Aizue is that when he takes contact going forward he is immediately looking to play the ball quickly.
He did this against Widnes and created havok.
The rest of our forwards need to avoid being 'turtled' and keep the emphasis on playing the ball quickly, with quick ball we are one of the better teams in the Champ!
