That's nowt to do with the Council Broad Street is privately owned, the Council don't own much in town now just their offices and Borough market.

Its all irrelevant anyway. The articles on theshay.org/wp/ showed that the Council could never have sold the stadium for what TA was offering and given that he was going to borrow to make the purchase at the pittance he offered, its doubtful he would have had the money to buy it for its rightful value.

| Quote: Fax4Life "No surprise really but I do think that the Shay needs looking into as it is starting to look shabby and typical of the Council there seems to be no maintenance plan for the stands and inside facilities, just take a look at the walls in the East Stand facilities its full of scuff marks and its not good enough, plus what is happening with that eyesore at the East Stand corner???
Yer the Council need to be careful regards ever selling the Shay to a private owner BUT one thing a private owner WOULD do is maximise the facilities better getting more use out of them and they would make sure things were all in good condition I am certain. The worry I have with Council ownership is that with money being tight and the Shay losing money nothing will get done and the stadium will start to deteriorate which it is already take a look at the South Stand steel work which needs painting.
Its okay for Town fans saying no to Tony Abbott but what now? I think pressure needs to be pit on the Council to sort out that east Stand corner one way or the other, use it, cover it with advertising or drop it!'"
The prime spot next door to the Club shop makes my blood boil , why it`s being used as a dumping ground for all to see is beyond me it just makes everything else look totally shabby . It`s geting to look rather like a builders yard now whoever is dumping all the stuff in there should be told to clear it and that includes Fax if anything belongs to them . It does not give the apearance that it is available for let and it`s not a good reflection on the stadium for it to look like that . The Local Authority do not have the mindset to run anything at a profit they merely spend ratepayers money for the benifit of the community as a whole ,they are charged with geting best value not making a profit .

| Personally i think both clubs have dodged a bullet here. The Reactiv statement and the councils reasons for not selling are at a total conflict.

That space is earmarked for the football club to incorporate offices and a shop. There were disagreements in the past between football club and council, they were close to being resolved. However it went on back burner again when Reactiv had their interest in the shay and the football club didn't know what was going on. I would expect with the reactiv interest officially over , that work may begin on the shop/offices.

| Quote: Bubba "Of course. We have long maintained that we dont want private ownership, regardless of who it is. This used to be Fax supporters' opinion too.'"
Would you have treated Mr Bosomworth the same way you did TA though
For a lot of people, many who had nothing to do with either club but knew what sort of person TA was and is, this is what it came down to and not any bid.
The personal attacks on him and his family crossed a line for normal decent people, can you not see that or do you just choose to ignore it.
Regardless of what happens to the Shay some of your followers despicable actions and your support as you languished in the glory and limelight will never be forgotten.
As you have stated you don't want any solution other than to see the Shay stay as it is regardless of everything else.
Which in fact as far back as anyone can remember under every council ever, it remains a liability at the an expense to every tax payer in Calderdale with no chance of it changing as long as they are at the helm.
Please go away and watch it slowly crumble.

| I can't understand why fans are bemoaning the shay.To me now it is like a palace of which i'm really proud of.Even Preston officials commented
on what a splendid venue it is last night. My time at Shay goes back to the 70s as a nipper when grass/shail/rust were the order of an embarrassing shay stadium so we oldies see it in a different light now.

That's the problem Ian. The half hearted Halifax approach is one of the reasons why both clubs are languishing where they are. Like you I remember when Fax were in SL, Town in't league and even the kick and clap mob were in't 2nd or 3rd tier. How times change.

| Personally I think that one good thing has come out of this situation - making the council aware that they have to maximise revenue for what they've got. We've seen an example of that recently with the sponsorship of the East Stand. It has paid for work to be done on the ground with no risk to either club or the tax payer. I'm quite happy for Reactiv to sponsor the Shay, but see no need for them to own it.
And yes, if anyone else tries to buy the ground I'll fight it just as hard - especially if it is the football club's BOD.

I agree it`s certainly time someone did however I have to wonder why the stadium manager allowed it to become a dumping ground given the amount of " hidden space " there is in the stadium . Anyone else looking to think of leasing it would be put off ,who does all the rubbish belong to ?
If nobody is paying rent on the place it should be empty and ready for someone to lease it .
