Having perused the new proposals in today's trade press i'm a little flumoxed. 1st half of a 12 team season you play each team once, so that's 11 fixtures, that's gotta be either six home or six away fixtures prior to 3 x leagues of 8 teams for the second part of the league season which segues into the play-offs which would equate to seven fixtures so the same theory applies to the number of home & away fixtures. Bradford, Wigan, Saints, Catalans, Leeds & Hull to get six home fixtures nailed on....

Of course, my maths was always rubbish so i'm open to ridicule on this one !

Proposals say that the top tier salary is £1.2 million and the next tier salary is £180k.
That's gonna mean when the leagues split mid-season, there will be a huge difference in playing budgets between teams in the newly combined middle tier.

Those figures equate to the Sky money, not the cap. Or have I read it wrong? If its the cap then what is the point? Why stop an "investor" ploughing money into a Championship club?

That's how I read it as well. So a further £180k to spend on wages/back office staff. The clubs in SL2 should be allowed if they want to or have the means to spend full cap for this to work. I like the idea.

The difference in funding is still too great but that is not suprising as the SL clubs will not vote for anything that sees them lose money.

This difference will become apparrent when the bottom SL 1 clubs and the top SL 2 clubs form the 8 league.

There may be the odd suprise but over the 14 games it will be a tough ask for the SL 2 clubs to be able to compete being largely part time with there new fulltime opponents and being at such massive finacial disadvantage.

I think another consideration should be starting the season a little later to avoid as much as possible games being affected by the weather.

A number of the current SL sides have better grounds where games have more chance of going ahead, it could cause a major fixture headache if the new SL 2 sides from the current championship get out of sync with the SL 1 sides.

Additionally it would be more supporter friendly if we weren't freezing our buts off, afterall it's supposed to be summer rugby.
