FWIW... from two mates of mine who are normally quite realistic in their view of things they stated that the gameplan of Sheffield right from the very off was to try and ruffle our feathers and Shefflield were cautioned on a number of occasions for this. It's a tactic that a lot of teams seem to try and employ against us but we're big enough and ugly enough to match teams when they play like this.
The tackle on Thackray when he had his eye on the ball whilst taking a catch was similarly intended to hurt the player and the flying high shot on Allen that led to the fight was equally as despicable.
In some people's ideal world players would get up and dust themselves off after being battered by the opposition or ignore whilst watching their team mates take cheap shot after cheap shot, but Rugby is played teetering on the edge of aggression and it's no surprise that sometimes it boils over. That's why the sport is lenient to the odd bout of fisticuffs.... something in other sports that would draw universal condemnation and severe penalties.
Let's get real.. it was bad, it will be dealt with, Widnes will suffer as a result of Haggy's actions.. but we've all seen worse...
think sheffield seem to use these tactics quite a lot the last few seasons just to get teams rattled.

All bar one have said that it was a bad hit and if it is as bad as it looks and he gets banned they all agree that would be right. Even the [ibar one[/i agrees it was bad but isn't bothered due to Sheffields alleged tactics.
Mebbes your just worried because we now have a pack that won't be shoved around anymore mate

I remember that. Mozza's eye was a beauty after that strike.
That shot from Haggerty should have been a straight red, (if it was seen), and should have been referred to the disciplinary panel to be dealt with asap, whether on report or not. Perhaps someone can confirm that the incident could be cited by the Match Commissioner for prompt review? |

As far as I know all championship reports or sendings off are dealt with on the Tuesday of the following week and not the current week, so even if he did get a red card he would still be able to play on Thursday. |

No one is condoning what Haggs did and he will rightly get a ban he just took a personal battle with Barlow way to far!
Widnes have never been cheap shot merchants and have often suffered becuase we get ruffed up in the Championship, so once we get some players who can take it and give some rougher stuff back like Gannon we suddenly become a dirty team? I don't think so, Eagles fans said Widnes used spoil tactics last week yet still scored 44 points away from home?
Fax saw at the end of last season playing fancy rugby isn't enough hence why they signed the likes of Aizue & Gene to toughen things up, so why when Widnes do it are we 'lowering the game' etc etc. |
