Going to be like the Leeds teams of the early nineties, overpaid players way past their prime trying to bleed someone dry, in this case DB.

Good afternoon Greg ,hope you are well?As for Derek B and his money? He has already been asked about his investments in players ,it's obvious by giving them all 2 year contracts this is not a short term thing,I think Derek has made it clear this is the second year of his 2 year plan and he doesn't want the same thing happening again like it did at the end of last season.
I think it's a win win situation with away Clubs benefitting from increased crowds as opposing fans turn out to see their team compete against some of the Stars on show,if we are successful and get into SL after next season I think Derek will then go for some younger established players, and hopefully we can invest in our own development of younger players, as we do have a few out on loan in Championship 1.

Lots of talk of us signing players at the end of their careers, but we'll actually have a younger pack next season than we had last. Wilkes (35), Aspinwall (34) and Tommy Goulden (34) leaving or retiring, with Dane Weston (2icon_cool.gif, Corey Paterson (2icon_cool.gif and Harrison Hansen (30) coming in. Maitua is the oldest to come in, but even he's a year younger than the first teamers to leave.

If anyone was wondering whether Leigh's thuggery would calm down next season then the bolded players above will have something to say about that!

Paterson gave McNally a whack in the cup game (sure that's helped him win over many Yorkies!), but don't recall Hansen and Maitua spending too much time at red hall.

I assume you've followed Weston's career closely then?

DB wont be just buying players he wants. It will be in consultation with the training staff and coach (I know that's obvious) and Paul Rowley knows a thing or two about players and coaching them. They have been the most successful Team in our league for the past few seasons.
I'm looking forward to next season more than ever. The standard for the top 5 teams has, in my opinion improved. If we go full time in 2017 there will be 5 full time teams and this will again improve the standards of this league. This will start to worry the S/L teams if the lower teams are already not keeping an eye on us.
Let DB spend his brass, we will spend what we can afford too as will every other club and lets see what unfolds in 2016. Cant Wait.

Thank you for a very sensible level headed post icon_thumb.gif no cheap shots about thuggery, or breaking the salary cap, no jibes about Derek's over spending or the age of the Leigh pack, just an opinion by a Fax fan looking forward to the coming season, and hoping the standards of Rugby improve as well as the Teams themselves,Enforcer take note of Faxlore post, a credit to your Club. icon_thumb.gif

Haha, you're joking about Reni right? Niggly and dirty! Definitely banned whilst playing for both Featherstone and Salford and hardly displayed cool-headedness in the past has he?!

Serious question for the leigh lot..

You should be in super league IMO, fantastic all season but we know how it ended, amusing at it was.

IF that happens again his season, what happens then? Surely he's putting all his eggs into one basket...

So you've reduced the accusation from 4 players to 1? Almost as if your original post on the subject was half baked nonsense

Well said, that man.

Yes, our owner has been splashing the cash - on experienced players. He and the coach have identified a need for experience, to aid us in the Qualifiers, should we be good/lucky enough to get there.

As a result of improving the squad, we are there to be shot at by all and sundry, and I would see 'Fax being one of the main obstacles for us to have to overcome. If your guys can maintain the standards you set, in the second half of the season, you will be a formidable team.

Personally, I will be taking no games for granted, especially the ones against 'Fax.

Excellent post, if Derick is in for the long haul then all well and good.
Good luck to him and Leigh.
Someone early in this forum said they bet we wish we had a money man like him, well perhaps, but, we once had a money man, he got us the League and then the cup and a losing final in three seasons, think turned sour, he (perhaps understandingly) walked away and the rest is history.
In my humble opinion we have got a good mix, directors putting money in, excellent sponsors and the best coach in the league (by a country mile icon_biggrin.gifANCE: ) with a well balanced, close squad with no egos and no one With silly wages than the others.
Good luck Leigh, looking forward to 2016.

For the poster who said about things ending like last year... Maybe they could but I really honestly think we will go up! As I said earlier whoever does go up will have to match the super league for spending to attract the standard of players to match sl teams in the 8's. I think Derek has given us the chance with the spending and if we don't make its them players that will have to answer the questions not Derek! Leigh rl has been on the brink of going boom before and may well be in the future. The town of Leigh is rugby mad it's in your blood as it is in Halifax, Leigh miners and siddal are examples of that! I can assure you there will always be a Leigh centurions even if we have to come from the brink again! Let's let Derek worry about he's money and let's enjoy the ride cause I know one thing I'm most looking forward to the shay this year and a big ding dong of a match

Quote: maurice "Last season Leigh attracted about 2000 fans to each game more than Fax averaging more than double Fax over the season, imo a club is the sum total of its fans so whatever is happening at Leigh Fax need to learn on how to grow its fan base for the future of the club'"

winning back to back leagues would definitely help a046.gif icon_lol.gif
