| ooppps just created a new thread for this......
Pretty impressive run out for the teams first outing I thought.
Some of the new lads really stood out and it looks like we have the makings of a pretty decent team with plenty of strength in depth. Cas had a pretty decent team out to start the game and we stood up really well against them and it was probably closer than the 18-4 scoreline suggested at that point with their first couple of tries looking dubious to say the least.
Both teams still have a few players to come in though and although we shouldnt get too carried away as Cas are going to be one of the lower SL sides again it was still probably a step up in intensity to what the players have been used to. Of the new guys Mennell and Kaye both had good games and the ball was much better from acting half than it has been, Mennell`s long ball for one of Potts tries was a good example.
Sam Brooks had a good game off the bench and I just wonder who is going to make way for him because unless he picks up an injury I would expect him to be in the 17 for most games. Simon Browns kicking game was superb and he found grass with nearly every single kick which at our level should make a big difference and his half back partner Johnson looks a right handfull and caused Cas a lot of trouble on numerous occasions. Gareth Potts can clearly finish there is no doubt about that and on todays showing its really hard to see Worrincy getting much game time. As a big fan of his that is quite disappointing as i was hoping the competition for places would do him good but he looked really lackluster today and Potts and Rettie are far and away in front of him in the pecking order.
Of the players from last season, Fieldhouse and Heaton were probably pick of the backs with Tyrer showing some good defence but also getting caught on a couple of occasions. I expect his place to be under real pressure with Cowling to come in and will struggle to get in if the loan centre comes in. Heaton looks to keep improving with good defence and attack apart from I just wish the coaching staff would help him with his passing which is one area that lets him down.
Our forwards were good again with Tonks leading the way, the other props went well and Manning pulled off a couple of great tackles in the second half and at times Adamson and Divorty caused them problems. Murrell was steady away and was of the pitch for a lot of the game but we already know how good he is and his enthusiasm seems to rub off on the other players.
Early days though but the signs were very encouraging.

| Couldn't make it today but it looks like we played pretty well against SL opposition and that can only be good .

| Good game but don't let the result mislead you in this.
Cas had a dozen first team players not playing and a lot were fringe, fringe players, debutants or people who hadn't played in ages.
Thought Potts took his tries well and a couple of others fronted up well but Cas could, should and with those dozen out, probably would have dispatched Fax much much earlier. Lost count of the number of chances we blew on your line.

| Blah blah fringe players. Blah blah debutants. Blah blah.
Of course, Fax had no players making debuts, no young lads from the fringes and we had the advantage of training in a full time environment.
We get the excuse for mediocrity on the pitch but what's the excuse for that shed of a ground you play in and where's the new stadium you lied about in your licence application?
May be you should spend your time asking why there's nothing much super about your "super" league club

Not sure what point you are making. Of course you had players missing but that wasnt our fault, your starting team had lots of SL quality in it and we stood up well against that team until the inevitable changes made by both teams.
Tansey; Owen, Channing, Dixon, Clare; Sneyd, Dorn; Lynch, Clark, Huby, Gilmour, Holmes, Wheeldon.
That is not a bad line up, obviously some players like Tansey wont be playing when the season starts but still not a bad line up. Infact I would say the majority of that team is the one that will be doing battle for you in SL and if that is the case I probably wouldnt be too excited if I were a Cas fan on that showing.

Perhaps you would pass on my admiration to the architects and builders involved with your new ground.
They have managed to demolish a sh*t heap and replace it with new a sh*t heap, they even made the surrounding area look like that around your old ground, boarded up pubs, empty houses and litter all over the place, in fact a sh*t heap.
Well done to them and the RFL for making you keep to your promise for 2013.
Your first try, right in front of us was not grounded correctly, Tyrer missed as easy conversion, Finn threw out a fantastic pass, to us. We had half a new team out there and were by far the more entertaining
Both teams made mistakes, yes, you more than us so surely a more sensible comment from you would have been "If we had played better we would have won" but then hey, if your Uncle had tit"s he'd be your Auntie.

| Castleford were also forced to wear 30kg lead boots and each player drank a full bottle of Night Nurse two hours before the match.

| We looked a lot sharper than last year and considering that's the first time the new look side has taken the field together in anger a good solid display.
Tonks was immense and was on the field for longer periods than at anytime last year.
Divorty looked strong as did Sam Brooke and the new half backs and hookers were much quicker at moving the ball out.
Debut tries for Potts 3, Johnston and Brown.
Early doors yet but not a bad start.

| Cas fans complaining? It's been a genetic thing since thatcher waded in and shut the pits down!
We could only play what was in front of us. KH said we were going to win, in that respect we failed.
We took on what was in front of us, went two scores behind yet still got a draw, were we unlucky to concede at the end! Maybe, had tyrer kicked that conversion we'd have won. Both sides made mistakes that led to tries. As a testimonial and first RU. Out for both sides it was a good game.
Must be said though how badly has the jungle delapidated? Sections of the end of the Main stand look to have blown away, home end now sponsored by plywood. We don't visit dumps like that in our league!

Afraid only four of those will start. Including tansey.
Tansey, Carney, Shenton, webster (if fit) Dixon, Seymour, Ellis, Huby, milner, lynch, hauraki, Millington, massey.
Far more excited at that team thanks
