Yup. Hate to say it, but I think I would prefer 5 drives and a kick at the moment until we learn how to play proper rugby.

Not missed many games, but am shocked at how many brainfarts our team make in a game. Throwing a pass when it clearly isn't on. Constant knock-ons, silly penalties. The standard has been pretty poor and it won't be bringing any fairweathers at £20 a pop down to the Shay any time soon.

I'm gonna stick up for the lads here, I predicted a 40-10 loss, and while people thought that I was being negative, Sheffield are an excellent side, and the game went as I expected.
Our pack more than held its own, but a back line with QLT, Yere, Taulapapa and Rob Worrincy was always going to give our makeshift back line a torrid time if we didn't get the rub of the green or play mistake free Rugby.
The referee was also poor, I've seen worse, but we needed parity and consistency today to have any chance and we got nothing, I did notice he gave us some soft penalties at the end, when the game was done,
I wonder if that will even the penalty count enough for Red Hall not to question his ability icon_wink.gif

Keep calm Jeff, this is the start of our journey, we are where I expected us to be, 4th is not impossible from here, the top three look a good distance better than the rest of the competition.

Catch 22 for me. RM is clearly talented and wants to play with style but this isn't a squad set up for that. Will we have the cash to sort it for next season? Not with crowds dropping. Can we possibly afford another season as part time - not if we don't want to drop further back. But we can't afford full time.

As I've said before, I hope the ambition of the club matches that of our good young coach and we get to see a squad that he builds playing in his way.

I have no solutions to the problem, other than someone with a few quid buying into the club or some really clever marketing....

Blowing second place last season has certainly weakened our position

The first 40 Sheffield played some great rugby, much too clever for us. Once again left side defence suspect but some of the plays Eagles worked would open up any side. Then second 40 they showed how to close a game. A top four side without doubt. Someone near me said why didnt we play like we did against Wakey. Wakey attacked with Super League skills but their defence was woeful , just cant compare the two games. Plenty of season left i just hope the squad can keep enthuasiasm up. Some decisions went against us but you get that when you under the cosh.

We are were we should be in the league. this eagles team has been together for years, we have a brand new half back pairing and a couple of players that normally wouldn't make the team.. Am afraid it's a case of waiting patiently till next year there will be plenty more games like this to come. Just hope the better parts of the team (mitch, salty, kaye) are still around next year. Same goes for Marshall, just think how bad this year would have been with Harrison!

Time for Tangata & Brown to go, absolute liabilities. Rant over'"

sheff, leigh and Bradford are a class above wasn't expecting to compete with these. We CAN beat Fev and London there the teams to focus on we might as well pack up now if we think otherwise

Shot ourselves in the foot getting rid of worrincy. Yes he had his faults but is a proper finisher who was exciting to watch and returned the ball really well.now we have Alex Brown.

League table says played 10 won 5 lost 5 .Position mid table. That's where we are at having been unable to beat the teams above us at the first attempt in the season. realism is the key word for me.We have offloaded/lost our strike players since KH came on board Fieldhouse/Thackray/Worrincy etc and going further back Penky Beswick Black etc. Unfortunately these players are adding real value to their new clubs and we simply have not replaced with the same standard of player. Our backs just don't have the strike power to finish off the great platform our pack lays. Poor core passing skills; running other peoples lines and not adjusting, knocking on, and worse still today not numbering up at a scrum on the blind side leaving a Worrincy walk in try is just not semi professional play I'm afraid. We have a Karl H forward dominated side with little flair in our backs and until RM gets some support to bring some in we are still going to be mid table. It's not time for us yet and people have to be realistic. Whether we like it or not-money talks and the full time teams will have the edge on us . Sheffield have got back on the horse after last seasons blip and showed us how to play a clinical and well managed brand of rugby. Our time will come if we stick together and support the club through this transformation period.

Warrency bet against his team, his team mates, his three try's were gifted to him, all he had to do was catch the ball.
Alex Brown was shocking, but to say why did we get rid of Rob?
Well we got rid of Rob because he embarrassed the club.

John as you know I always rated the Worrier ,I still do ,and I understand why Fax let him go , but he is still class,a reason why he is in my Fantasy Rugby team.
Where Fax go from here?I predicted a lose for you today ,and think Fax will win next week , however you have Leigh at the LSV to come and Bradford at Blackpool ,not looking good I predict Fax will lose 10 games come the end of the season , meaning that 4th spot will be a struggle for you, I hope I'm wrong but I think Dews will finish 4th ,hope to see you in 2 weeks time.Charles. icon_thumb.gif

Bolded part sums it up for me today, Sheffield were leagues apart from us in those departments. They looked like a team where the majority of them are full time and for the first time this season I thought we looked like a team that had just met. Our passing has been woeful all season for the most part and we do not have the talent in the team to put the ball where it should be and it makes some players look very bad because of that. For example I can not remember Johnson catching a clean ball today without having to either jump or reach back to take the pass on the other hand he is as guilty because his passing was not the best either but it makes it so easy for the defence when players can not do the basics right.

On the ref I thought it was a game of two halves of two different sets of rules, which must be frustrating for the players. Both teams were horrible at getting onside in the first half but I cant remeber a single penalty for it in the first half yet there must have been about 5 or 6 in the second. It was just a strange performance by the ref.

Not sure where we go from here, same old same old, we are not a team that throws in a surprise win ever now and again. With 2 more loses against Bradford, one against Leigh and with still Sheffield and London to play we are even up against it for even 5th place especially when you throw in games like Dewsbury, Batley and Fev who are all more than capable of beating us. Its a sad day when Im thinking we will do well to finish 6th or 7th.

Probably the most disappointing out of all the losses this season.
We more than matched them in the pack again but lost our way when we got in the final third.
We need to be running more lines asking questions of the defence, just driving it in and wayward passes is why we are not scoring when we get good field position.
The knock-ons in our own 20 when we had the ball which led to 3 try's didn't help, Sam Smeaton gave Taylor a lesson in classic centre play today and Rob just had to walk in.

Not often the learned GFB agrees with Charlie , but the last paragraph is virtually what I've already stated in my previous post. icon_thumb.gif
