Pound for pound, George was a real tuff nut, he went into the crowd at Cardiff Dragons once to sort someone out.
As for "nutter" .... I think you have to be nuts anyway to play RL, but I suppose you're looking for some who were/is that bit harder than the average player. Can't disagree with names already metioned, the stand out for me was Dave Watson who for his size held absolutely no fear of anyone. Others I can add are Freddie (in his prime!)and Cavill Heugh. And dare I say it, when Andy Hobson first burst onto the scene I thought he was the real deal!!
Most intelligent? Off the field wise - Mark Preston. RL wise - the already named Michael Hagan, Wayne Parker, Greg Florimo, Chris Anderson, Gavin Clinch, John Pendlebury. I'm sure there's many more!

Yep, Bob Arnold. Thought he was jumping over a wall but soon found out it was a bridge
He's still involved in the game ------ sort of. On the Gold Coast leg of the World Cup tour 2008, residents and former players, Graham Eadie, Bob Arnold and Keith Neller were tour guides

| Terry Langton for me.
The term 'nuggety' doesnt do him justice. A smart player who used to get targetted by the big props, yet still come back for more. Smashing bloke too, but his head looked like it had been chewed after games.
The only time I can remember somebody getting the better of him was when a young Andy Gregory broke his cheekbone over at Widnes. Terry was playing him off the park so in typical Widnes style they took him out. I suppose he should have been happy not to be knee-capped in that delightful part of the world.

He played for Batley in a reserve match in 2008 and got red carded for headbutting, then played in their first team the week after when he got a right haul of points.

Big Roy was brilliant as after dinner speaker at Elland Cricket club last night, one of the funniest speakers I've ever heard. He was on the same bill as Lea Roberts who was as usual, brilliant at the fund raiser dinner that Alan Kellett used to organise.

| Very good thread and it's interesting to read the comments. Having just returned from my local pub (the Ivy House) I had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours with the legendary Johnny Freeman.
Couldn't believe it when I walked in and he was stood at the bar on his own. He's up for the weekend and went to the dinner on Friday night.
Can honestly say I would have paid money to listen to the stories I got told. From his duels with his good friend Billy Boston to the battles with Tom Van Vollenhoven. He spoke of the hard men and Jack Wilkinson was prominent in his stories as well as Ken Roberts.
He spoke about Odsal and the Boulevard and how intimidating it was. Really funny listening to his stories of players getting sent off at Odsal and getting hit with umbrellas as they walked up the stand on the way back to the dressing rooms!
What a legend!

| I called into the Ivy House when i visited on the 94 Kangaroo tour. I was wearing my Canberra Raiders jumper and walked out with a Batley jumper that was about six sizes too small.
