Quote: freddies wig "To be fair the FC Halifax Town fans smelt a rat long before we did.'"
It was never a case, initially, of smelling a rat. It was genuinely about the risks of the stadium falling into the hands of private individual, whoever it was. I think the rat smelling was caused by the ridiculous way that Tony Abbott, the Council and rugby club handled the bid. I dont doubt some of the opposition by supporters of the football club was due to it being a director of Fax who was behind the bid but the main concern was over private ownership.
I think those who opposed it were quickly vindicated given the unfortunate break down of Tony Abbott's marriage and then the problems with the business practices of Reactiv. God knows what would have happened to the stadium had Reactiv managed to buy it and it become an asset of that business.
My personal biggest regret is the deeper damage it has done to relations between the two clubs and its supporters. There was some pretty horrible mud slinging that went on - between both sides. Town fans were accused of being Luddites, I had my home address posted on here (which wasnt removed by the overzealous moderators) and some nasty comments were made against Tony Abbott.
It all became a bit too personal though it proves the affection we all have for our respective teams. I really do hope that its now consigned to history and that lessons are learned on all sides.
