| A few observations from the game:
1.Loud and generally friendly Hawks fans - some turned nasty when we inevitably won. Nice ground and great view of course.
2. Fax players conserving energy - clearly. Calahane all of a sudden took us to a win. Hope this is banking...
3. Missed some key players of course. Heaton, Robbo, Craven...
4. Scott M is not the man to take us up. Sorry, nice guy etc... but a tad lazy, GUT, and kicking was woeful.
Nearly there but RM knows where to plug the gaps.

| Impressed with our concentration in defence, we need to be a bit more aggressive down the middle on the narrow pitches though.
We threw some dumb stuff at times instead of building pressure, I'm guessing it was over confidence after a good couple of weeks.
A win is a win, 4th, well done.

Scott bossed the game last week against Fev. The loss of Danny Craven is huge as he took a lot of pressure and work off the shoulders of Murrell. He is still a brilliant player at this level but requires the right half back partner to really flourish.

| Our defence is probably as good as I have seen in a few years, Hunslet simply never looked like scoring and it was just a matter of time before we broke them.
We missed Craven badly as I think we have looked a lot better attack wise with the 3 attacking options of Murrell, Craven, and Johnston. I thought the new guys had decent games and slotted in well. I agree with Encouraged in some respects but you put any top playmaker in this team and they will not be the player to lead us to SL, no player would be in a part time team. I reckon if you aked the players who the most important person in the team is they would all come back with the same answer. I think its more a case of Craven took some of the pressure off Murrell and its no coincidence the last few games how well he had been playing.
Other pluses, Tyrer had a really good game and has been good all season, Johnson tackled everything that moved and our fringe defence read just about every play that hunslet could come up with perfectly. Our "penalty machine" prop is the best prop in the league bar none and I would love to see an argument otherwise, Manning is simply a machine, Kaye is not the player of the last couple of years and Tangata is starting to settle in to the team well. Speaking of which he has got a pair of hands on him hasnt he? Not to mention the yards he makes us both in attack and with strong defence at times. Plus if he hits someone when he sets off like a missile he is going to muller them.
A win is a win, it wasnt spectacular but we had to win.

| Tough game and a lot closer than I thought it would be.
Probably our lack of line speed and not moving up made it hard for ourselves as they gained easy meters on almost every carry, got to the kick which had us running it back from our own twenty every time, coupled with the narrow pitch and nowhere near the ten meters all night made breaks hard to come by.
Poor choice on kicks etc on the small amount of field position we did get could have been better.
Just glad we got the result in the end because it could easily have been a real bad day at the office.
Well done lads for sticking at it.

| That was a tough win, we were miles away from the team we looked like at Fev but as has been said it is a narrow pitch and Hunslet out enthused us with that No46 from Leeds kicking game being top notch unlike ours why do we kick in the air to the corners and carry on doing when it when plainly was not working plus their wingers were hardly small? The Ref let them be blatantly offside all night, what a difference from the Ref last week who was completely the opposite! That did benefit Hunslet who looked out on their feet in the last quarter but were allowed to slow the game down.
We never got out of 2nd gear and coughed up the ball with silly passes but the winning try was worth the entrance money and well done lads for going to the end and getting a win from the jaws of defeat, crucial as all the hard work last week would have gone to waste. We can use this experience for next week at Dewsbury as their pitch is the same plus we have an extra 2 days off.

I thought their kicking game was excellent and probably the only reason they were in the game. I totally disagree about them making easy metres, I thought they struggled all game and only their kicking game rescued them.

No problem we all have them.
I think both sides struggled and neither looked to be in the game and it was hard to see either scoring, Fax were as different a side from Fev as it's possible to be.
The easy meters were made by them on most of the plays by simply passing the ball from dummy half slightly wider to the first receiver which took our markers out of the game.
Combined with being slow getting back to the ref by the time we turned we barely moved a yard forward before having to make the tackle hence the easy meters reference, most of their kicks were at least on or over the half way line with little or no pressure applied, the charge down from Kaye was on the half way line being the exception.
It was only in the last 15 minutes when they looked tired that we finally got in their faces and forced them to kick from deeper.
Their kicking did a bit more than keep them in the game it gave them field position to win it, we had some good goal line defence at times that kept them out.
One slip and the game would have got away from us.
