I'm not entirely 100% certain on this but I think Tony & Croady have upped their involvement this year with the club. Not that they weren't heavily involved before mind. However both Michael Steele and Mike Riley have both toiled and worked mega hard for the club whilst both have had health issues which is phenomenal really when both are retired.

I think this is merely a shift in the younger guys having more input and certainly with Tony now being the major shareholder effectively makes him the owner I'd say. However the knowledge both Mike's have is irreplaceable but it does take a bit of the day to day pressure off them both I'm sure.

When did Tony Gartland get rid of his shares? My mind is mashed after crimbo but did we actually go belly up at some point so he lost them or did he sell them, or does he still have some?

Must admit I always thought Gartland had shares in the club. Must have changed when Pearson took over the running of the club.

Might have had something to do with the change to a Community Club when the advisors took over, and the subsequent change back to a PLC a couple of years later

I think the current company is a different one to the one Tony Gartland had shares in.

My understanding is based from when I first was involved in setting up the Supporters Trust, quite a few years ago now!! Our aim at the time was to get a voice on the board and to do this we would need to buy shares in the club to give us that voice. Anyway TG had clearly stated earlier that if any investors came in willing to take the club forward he would sell his stake for £1. We asked him at the time if he would sell us his shares for the same price. He was willing but only if we raised enough cash to pump into the club. Sadly back in those days Stephen Pearson was really against any involvement from a group set up by supporters and didnt support our setting up of the trust.

Anyway once he took the club down the community route it actually made all shares null and void as it then became a not for profit organisation and overnight The Supporters Trust's aim changed.

When Mr Posner made the club into a Ltd business again this was when the new company set up and shares were issued I believe.

Mr Gartland basically never got a penny but agreed to forgo his shares in discussion with Stephen Pearson as he theoretically could have vetoed the community club route as the major shareholder at the time. He didnt though so he therefore knew he was giving his shares away at this point. He wasn't bothered though either way as long as the club survived.

Courier article said that Tony Abbott had taken his ownership to 30% and the next biggest shareholders were Michael Steele and Howard Posner with 21% each

Who has the remaining 28%? Mike Riley has some, and doesnt Roger Harvey hold some as well?
