The better team over the 80 minutes won. Can't knock Fax for effort but again, instead of playing the patient game, we reverted to forcing the pass at key moments.

Batley's defence was excellent, and Handforth's kicking was the difference.

I think the most concerning point for Halifax was how inept we looked in attack when Penky wasn't on the pitch. We seemed to lack ideas and, at times, it was like watching England Rugby Union passing the ball down the line, no-one moving forward, with it eventually ending up with an isolated winger.

Our kicking game was much better in the second half, but then having done the hard work and got ahead, instead of consolidating, we through a forward pass in their 20 metres and lost our momentum.

I think batley deserved the win, but black was held back from tackling the batley runner in their last score.

You mean the one before their last try? That was my initial reaction over the try but there didnt seem to be a single complaint from our team.



A few people mentioned this and yes it was but it is so easy to defend against a team that only has lateral movement which is what we had for most of the game. How the Batley centre ran on to the ball at the opposite direction in the first half where he nearly broke our line is what we should be doing. It was a superb move and a superb half tackle by i think it was Patts that saved us. That was great rugby which was the opposite to watching us pass the ball from side to side without much forward movement for most of the game.

Quite the worst decision he made was when your player kicked the ball away at our play the ball under the sticks. He gave us the penalty which we took for 2 points but surely it was a professional foul and should have resulted in 10 mins in the bin.

To play a man down in that heat could well have been just a bit too much for any team.

Or perhaps the worst decision was never penalising Batley number 4 who could never get onside or Batley team for messing the play of the ball, or not penalising the player for pulling Ben black back, or for letting us get away with a blatent forward pass or etc. Etc etc................. Best team won, in my opinon, end of.

Error strewn performance, but fair play to Batley, good solid team who deserved it.

Handforth is pure quality at this level.

Lets put this one to bed and look towards travelling and beating Dewsbury,Barrow and the Blackpool big one ( not the ride ).

Agree with most of what's been said. Batley definitely deserved to win. Defensively very impressive and tactically superior - their kicking game was spot on I thought fax did vey well to come back from being 16 pts down while gannon , was my m.o.m. However my major concerns are the right hand side defence and the attack. I posted after the Leigh game that I had my concerns to which a couple of posters disagreed. Well I do think their is a major problem there. I don't know If it's the half backs not gelling or running lines etc are just not working but that is my biggest worry at the moment. I don't know enough about the game to get technical but if it can be sorted then we can still have an influence at the end of the season

Anyhow, I put my post here because there are some Halifax supporters still blaming the ref for your loss, which really stretches the imagination, and yes, I know there are also some on here who said you were generously treated by him. I actually thought the refereeing was ok, if a little odd at times, but isn't it always?

Both of our half backs look relieved to get rid of the ball instead of playing closer to the defensive line & committing the opposition into decision making. Both poor, that's why we're not creating too much.
Our best attacking options come from Penky's hands & boot and Beswicks dummy half work. Greenwood, Worrincey & White are working their backsides off with the ball.

Spot on Colin. When you have pretty much those 3 who are only ones who seem willing to do the yardage work then it is predictable and easy to defend against. Everyone comes alive and starts buzzing in the opposition 1/3 of the field
