thats true. A few years ago the club had an open question evening & I emailed them the question asto the funds form the sale, CM emailed me back (he was jack of all trades @ that time with the club I believe) & confirmed that it was used to settle old debts etc, sadly nothing there was nothing left from it. Im sure officeboy can confirm this for us again.

| The club was losing money well before Nigel Wood over in November 1995.
It just couldn't sustain fulltime football.
The only reason we were competitive in the top flight was due to the generosity of one man.
Thrum Hall had had it's capacity slashed to 4500 in August 1995 by the licensing bodies DESPITE having nearly one million pounds spent on it.
Grossly unfair to blame Nigel. In financial terms we should never even of thought of going into Super League. That's where the money went...what little we had.

| Got to be Sooper Dooper League as Thrum Hall was lets admit it quaint but not a stadium we could be proud of, we all seem to forget its stone trough gents, sloping pitch and lack of cover when it rained!
Atmospheric yes, good stadium - no.

They are pretty dreadful, but then most people know that.
But just wait and see what the East stand brings to the party!!!!!

Thrum Hall had character but so does the thay!'"
The Shay has no Charactor for me personally. Its an alright Stadium but lacks the Charactoristics that made Thrum Hall what it was. We also have to sadly share it with a team and people who I do not trust or like. I think if we was in difficulty they would not be wanting to help us. Thrum Hall like many old Stadiums had something magic about it. The Slope, Being so close to the Action on the Lower Side, The way the players came through the crowd before and after the game. It was an old Stadium but then these Old Stadiums like The Watersheddings, Central Park, Headingley have something which in almost all new Stadiums miss. I also think All Seater Stadiums are not that great in creating an atmosphere- Wigan, Huddersfield, Hull are nice Stadiums but atmospherically lacking compared to the previous Old Stadiums.
And if I am honest we will struggle in SL and would be quiet content to see us playing at a level where we have a good chance of winning trophys and being in a League where the fans stick through thick & thin. The fans at places like Batley, Fev, Leigh, Haven for me are people I love who generally know the game and expect little from their team like us and just enjoy watching the game as a whole not just their team. The fans generally in SL are only interested in their club and have no real love for the game as a whole. I also think playing at Mount Pleasant, Post Office Road, Lawkholme Lane etc is better than playing in front of Empty Stadiums at Huddersfield, Quins and Crusaders.

I agree entirely, but also, as well as unique features of Thrum Hall, how much of the speecial atmosphere the place could generate was down to the memories of great players and classic matches that had graced the stadium?
Up to now, at The Shay we have not had these special matches or players gracing the pitch, but these will come!!
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a competitive Halifax RLFC in the super league, but I also love the Championship. Proper, honest, entertaining Rugby League played as it should be, at grounds with character, watched generally by fans who know a bit about rugby league.

The Shay has no soul and no amount of new stands will alter that but unfortunatly it is what we have so we must make the best of it.When setting off for a match I look forward to the game but wish it was not at the Shay. I follow my team and put up with where they play.

| I can understand the sentiment towards TH, but dont know what the problem is with the Shay, i think its a great ground-especially when there is a decent number attending so that the away end needs opening (as would usually be the case in super league)

That confirms my point ,you could walk into an empty Thrum Hall when a match was`nt on and it still made you tingle I`ve gone down the Shay when there have been decent crowds and "nothing".Not complaining it`s what we`ve been dealt but to compare the two is laughable.
