I seem to remember him playing 1 or 2 games but then doing something like his ACL or MCL. Could have been a great signing for us given his record in the Championship but like so many we have brought in over the years never lived up to the billing. |

Can anyone remember that young lad called Longstaff? He was supposed to be the next superstar but just seemed to fade away.

Welsh lad I think although I might have him mixed up with someone else but think he got in to coaching and there was an interesting article about him as he had some struggles. I will add it if I can find it.

I can even remember his photo in the Courier, ...... smiling as he was signing the contract! Can't remember if he actually played, but there was much flag waving and drum beating as we beat some rival big clubs for his signature.
Mark Roberts cost us £20k from Warrington but injury meant he never (or hardly) played, and shortly after signing Alan Maskill from York (I think) he tragically died in a car accident. |

Simon Longstaff played in the late 80's but I don't think he made more than 20 appearances for us. He was from the Wakefield area and went to Oldham but became a javelin thrower I believe.
