| Quote MorePlaymakersNeeded="MorePlaymakersNeeded"From a neutral perspective, an enjoyable game. Thought Halifax competed well, but Widnes had the edge by getting the ball out wide with good finishing. Halifax's pack weren't dominated and put in a good shift, and will be a great foundation to build on for the future. Lyons looks a good prospect for Widnes, and Ah Van and Inu were difficult to stop given any space to work with. Score flattered Widnes a tad, but they were worthy winners over the 80 mins.'"
Your username and summary pretty much hits the nail on the head for us. We need new blood in key positions.

| Halifax have done very well indeed to make the top 4 but I can't help but think the middle 8s for us are very much an anticlimax - lots of huff and puff, promises of things to come etc and anticipation of what the added finances will bring.... Then nothing.
Sadly RM does not have the capacity to change things with the team, that to the rest of us are absolutely apparent... There are zero plans for any new HBs and I doubt many of the key areas already highlighted in need of attention will be addressed as I made to believe we will take to the field next year with pretty much what you see now....

As you know, always a question of spending.
Do we have the option to push the boat out a bit more?
If not then fair enough, but if yes, should we take a bit of a gamble or play safer and just paddle along.
No doubt there will be a variety of opinions.

| When reading these posts I a sense that everyone except RM can see where we need to strengthen, half back Murrel gets a lot of stick, too slow, unfit, but yet the guy is nominated for player of the Championship! Yes he needs a quality partner but give the guy credit for what must be another very good year, or are the other 200 + players in Championship really bad. On the same vein how did Butler not get a nomination.
None of us outside the immediate club circle really know what is going on with current and future planning, yes the BoD could be a little more transparent, as it is frustrating when there is mushroom management .
Even though I am 9000 miles away I still have a keen interest and often stay awake until the small hours to listen to any commentary that are aired for my rugby team.
Unfortunately the game was not available to me on tv live yesterday, I just had to be content with jeering at my friends Lancashire lights out at the Vitality Bash.
Up the Fax and Yorkshire all the way

Who nominates the players for the awards ? If it comes from within the club , then that could explain the nomination.

| A fantastic effort by Fax. All Widnes tries went through our left hand side and it makes one wonder if the tough tackling Tyrer would have made a difference. Brandan Moore was my MOM, and definitely made a difference when he came on after a slow start. Leeds next up and really looking forward to it. Last time we played them was in SL in 2003. Anyone remember the score?

| Just watching the game, showing on Setanta under e guise of Cas v Hudd!
As good a winger as Salty is he got beaten too easily. I was surprised Widnes did not target him more. All too often our other defenders were found lacking in closing down the man and allowed lay offs. Do fax need a tackle coach?
Had the first try not been disallowed could have been a different game, but all too often ran out of ideas , seems as though scared to get over the whitewash, going for one man glory and not looking for an opening. Overall full time pro fitness showed the difference. Overall I do not think The Fax were embarrassed.

All I could hear was sky going on about Danny Walker totally ignoring Moore, who I also thought was our best player, and totally ignoring him for the MOM picks. He would be doing 80 minutes for me, I see no need for an interchange hooker at this level especially as we normally end up with both on the park later in games and one acting as a second rower.

I wouldn't say we need a tackle coach as our defence is very effective at Championship level but not suited for SL opposition. There's nothing really wrong with that but our problems like you mention are our inability to score infact I would go as far to say we look below average when we get in the oppositions half but it all comes back to our skill levels and when you have key positions who can't give out a good pass your attack is always going to look rushed.

| Having had time to reflect on yesterday's performance we all saw what we have seen most of the season and also something from last weeks game again, to be honest. Masses of endeavour and spirit. The difference is we are not as efficient in speed of thought, decision making, and execution than our SL opponents. Last weeks left edge D took a battering with Hall strolling in for 4 tries. Yesterday we saw the same with a quality right edge from Widnes who were too big and too strong for our boys.
When we make mistakes at Championship level we often get away with it. But at SL level you get punished and we have done throughout these 8's-something we need to learn from quickly.
We need a couple of 'class' players in key positions in the spine of the team and we will move onwards and upwards.(look what a difference QLT made in 5 games) We also need to keep hold of the likes of Moore and Butler who are only going to get better and better.

| I just don't go with all this coaching-bollox about defence wins matches. I accept it helps you to win but scoring points and try's is how you win a rugby match and the bottom line is that only when we had QLT did we look like a team that were able to score with relative ease. Without him we stutter towards the opposition line I think our defence is pretty good although personally a winger should be instructed and encouraged werever possible to hold the outside line of his opposite number and not cut inside always leaving the long pass option. Myler will have a field day on Saltys side if he does that next week . Let the take responsibility for his man trust him and stay out on your wing. Salty to be fair looks fitter than he has been for some considerable time certainly the start of the season and still has quick feet to beat a man and gain the hard yards out of defence.
