So we get a French player who by all accounts we have as good if not better in the reserves and one that we actually had seen play before is now at Swinton. All seems a bit unstructured on the face of it.considering everything costs money. mind you I suppose the answer is the existing players have just about delivered the goods. And with a lack of injuries there are a few players chomping for game time particularly to play the 8s. Ie Heaton . WBH , Jones etc. Do we actually need any more players would be my question?

About to post the same thing-you are spot on.QLT/Moss type signings that add to the quality..great-don't want making up numbers signings.Why would we want a young Giants centre with Heaton/Mcgrath chomping at bit.

The French guy was absolutely abysmal in the Bradford reserves feature. No idea how he got MOM. Seemed to be workshy and afraid of contact.

RM has already said that we are always interested in players who fall within our budget and could add to / improve the squad but would not be signing players just for the sake of it as injury wise we weren't doing too bad with cover in most areas and some who are already here were chomping at the bit to get a chance.

On the Mac Davies situation when the club were first approached Fax stated that they were okay in that area and were not really looking but the lad asked if he could still come anyway, this happened but as above didn't go any further than the odd game on the reserves do now he's gone back, same with Walid, hasn't had a chance yet.

I can.We don't need you but you can come anyway-what sort of basis is that for a signing ? Davies and the French lad if not significantly better than Sion/Fraser etc are counterproductive at the club.

Correct. What do these sort of deals say to the likes of Ben Heaton or Sion Jones. Now I've only been involved in RL for going on 60 years and don't profess to be a coach but the two lads named above would be like two new signings in my opinion. Perhaps RM just dosen't rate them or summat behind the scenes has gone off that we don't know about. The thing is they already know our systems/calls. Both are easily good enough to come straight in. More importantly they are members of our tightly knitted squad and belong to something that can't be bought. If it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind. Aye, if a QLT or Kieren Moss comes along and we can afford to get 'em, all well and good, happy days but as has been said it would be counter productive to get lads in just to boost numbers. The basis was not a signing, it was to have a look at a young player from an SL background who had personally asked for a chance.
The alternative is to say no thanks, not only to him but everyone else who asks and then later on when others takes a look and they turn out to be a good one then it would be "Why did we not have a look at him", "another one slipped through the net etc".

RM knows what all the lads currently signed up for are capable of and to stop taking a look at others has no logic.

Those lads will know exactly where the stand at the club and if they were to get upset at the head coach taking a look at other players then there in the wrong game.

Point taken..but this is not pre-season where people are trialling with a view to earning a contract-it was announced as a one month loan agreement with a contracted super league player.

If he were to become available and was what RM was looking for and he liked it here then we have a foot in the door, contact made, assessment done and "informed decision" possible.

The alternative is Fax don't take a look at any contracted player who is offered to them.

RM and his staff seem to be doing a fantastic job with both the first team and reserves with the cards they are holding so why doubt him here , you either trust him or you don't.

for me asking the questions and the ability to do so are the most important thing. It's got nothing to do with trust just a will to constantly improve from where you currently are . I don't think as a club or supporters we have asked enough over recent years. I think MM changed that by questioning the way the club was operated My question to the club at this stage is ...what board decisions or changes do you feel have contributed most to this seasons success . ? Because the reality is we have got to where we are with nobody saying ...." We have no money " significantly signings of Qlt and Moss came mid season. One to discuss .

Cant see a problem with looking at players with a view to a permanent deal . That's what RM and MG are doing. French lad might not work out but he was worth a punt. Nothing to lose.
