If Captain Average (Cherryholme) is in the running it shows how bad the team performance was!

Chezza managed a good solid 30 minute spell in the first half, a shame none of our other props seem capable of more than 10 or 15 without needing oxygen and a fortnight recovery time between stints.
All the fans are asking for, is that the players give full commitment to the cause and there are currently less committed players on the field than Chezza.

Nat, like many that stand at the back of the south stand, once they get their bee in a bonet about a certain player it does not matter what said player does from there on they will always never be good enough in their eyes.

Did you go to the game? Did you see Cherryholme absolutely busting a gut to make the hard hards. He had his best game yet in a 'Fax shirt and you start calling him Captain Average.

He's performed very well this year, puts the effort in every drive from what ive seen. Only him and Aizue doing something for your pack.

I would rather have a team of players like Cherryholme any time , he plays as well as he possibly can do every match and tries to improve himself. It`s up to the coach to shape a team and some players who have the skills are shirking .
I spoiled the game for myself yesterday because for some reason I could not take my eyes off Holroyd he delibratly hid if there was any chance of him taking or making a tackle .It`s up to the coach to tell him he has to, we have not got a good enough team to carry someone not pulling his weight.
I can forgive a player who is puting in his best performance even though he`s not the best but I can`t forgive a player who is deliberatly not giving their all for the shirt they have borrowed. (and I am not talking about just Holroyd) there is a few of them, how can our team carry players who can`t play more than 5min without asking to come off? If that players not fit enough tell him to get fit or ship out. Nash is just about doing ok but he`s still not at his best fitness wise why was this? He came back late well overweight and has only just got into the squad and we are half way through the season we can`t afford to carry people we have not got the skilled players we had last year to pull us though.

What a stupid thing to say I'm guessing you didn't bother going to the game then?!?! He was the only forward who ran with any agressiony and at times looked like the only player putting any effort in. If the rest of the team put in the same effort has he did i wouldn't be bothered about loosing cos I would know at least the team was putting in the effort.

Yes, I went to the game as I have every game this season except the Haven ones.

Average is not bad, nor is it good. Cherryholme is excellent at being average. Makes a average number of yards per drive and an average number of tackles per game. I am not saying he is a bad player or that he dosen't try hard. But I have never seen him bust a tackle or tackle a player onto his back one on one. Effort does not equal success at pro level. That is the reason he never played SL at Bradford and didnt look anything special when I played against him years ago in the Pennine League Div 1.

So by that comparison, how do you think Chinny has improved over the last few seasons Nat ?
Couldn't get in an average Halifax team but now in the equivalent of Pennine div 5 under the new structure.


I reckon folks ought to get off Cherryholme's back on his recent form. He's taken his opportunity and played his best game in a Halifax shirt on sunday, against one of the biggest packs in this division.

Chinny has looked special at every level I have seen him play, apart from Fax where he was a bit undersized and was unlucky with a couple of injuries. I wasn't bagging Pennine Div 1 at all.

I sort of see where you are coming from and you need players like Cherryholme in the team and yes he had a really good game on Sunday but, and its a big but, our problem at the moment is that we are carrying too many of the same type of player. I mean take someone like Wrench, one of my favorite players, never the most spectacular players but 100% pure graft week in week out and looked good in our team. The problem is you cant have 17 players like that and win things, not these days anyway but every team needs a sprinkling of these players its just we have too many.
